If I stop smoking before Im 30, will I live an average life span? -

I-m currently 19 and smoke about 5 cigarettes a day.It takes about 10 pack years of smoking to cause lung cancer, and you aren-t yet at heart attack age, so I-d say the effect on your life expectancy is going to be pretty damn low, though not of course nonexistent.

If you want numbers, you can try plugging your figures into this smoking risk calculator:

http://www.medindia.net/patients/calcula…

I tried it with five a day for ten years (don-t know how long you-ve been smoking) and the effect on life expectancy was small.Depends on how bad you get! They say for every cigarette you smoke, you take about a day off of your life. It ultimately depends on how long you-ve smoked and how much you do it. Sometimes there are defects with your body and smoking can really take a toll on your body. It can make the situation worse. I-d stay quit now instead of later. My dad tried to quit so many times but never could. He died at the age of 50...smoking 3 packs a day. Don-t give your addiction time to worsen! If you do decide to smoke, don-t do it around your children. I have really bad asthma and cigarette smoke makes it so much worse. I was stuck with my dad smoking...even when I couldn-t breathe, he couldn-t give up his precious addiction. Don-t do that to your future/current kids!Don-t know...might get hit by a truck or have a house fall on you.....

At least, if you quit smoking, you might be able to run fast enough to get out of the way.......No you wont...

has anyone tried the patches or the gum and did they work? The fact that you are even asking the question makes me think you have made a start. I used the patches as directed and, although it took the combined effort of the patches and willpower, I did it. Most smokers who try to quit will fail the first few times, but keep trying. You-ll be amazed how much better you will feel. Good LuckYes and no.
It-s really depend on your resolution. If you cutting off your cigarettes completely, patches and gum will help to control your craving. But you also need to reduce the use of these aid gradually or the chance are you might come back to your old habit.every time you smoke you decrease your life span by an hour! so it would make some years if you add them up....your blood doesn-t clot very well .. you can-t taste food, you can-t sleep well, your lungs are too weak and the smoke is making holes in it, blood clots in brain, heart is too weak, your fingers tremble, you have gor 99.95% chances of cancer and you will die a horrible death ususally between 40-50. this is your situation now or will be in near future do whatever you can use patches and every time you feel like smoking remember my words ! good luck!if u r a somker and you-re extrememly addicted the lungs of a smoker won-t do a damn thing...patches can work but mentality works best. you have to really want it in order to do it. be strong and it will happen.I suggest you look at the lungs of a smoker (use google).

Also look up what smoking does to the overall health.

And yes, if you really want to quit, gum helps. Not sure about the patches.my uncle and i gave up using the patches and the inhalator and my mum gave up using the gum! they really do help!!
here is a website that also helped me www.quitnet.com because it adds up how long you havent had a smoke, how many hours of your life you have saved, how much money you have saved and how many smokes you would have smoked if you hadnt given up!!simple...just quit....or replace that habit to a useful one....stay home and don-t communicate with others, to prevent...show off.

Chest pain from smoking and coughing? -

Well first off yes I smoke marijuana, I am not here to hear people say - Stop smoking, marijuana is bad blah blah - I am asking for help. Not what your insight is on marijuana.

Well I have been sick since feb 6th with a upper chest infection and ear infection also. I have taken all my anti biotics and feel fine now. Well this past weekend I was smoking and I hit a water pipe and coughed really hard. Well ever since then I have been having chest pain. Feels like sore muscles but I am not sure.

I continued to smoke like an idiot and it made it worse, should of taken a week or so long break ( I am now ).

I am just wondering what it could be? Do you think I strained my muscles from coughing to much/hard? Also some times feels like I have a lump in my throat which is weird. I have no sharp pains more of just an annoying pain then anything. It feels better with a heating pad on it or hot water.

I am 19/M

thanks- Stop smoking, marijuana is bad blah blah -Yes, it could be a strained muscle, you are right. You might get checked by the doctor. You don-t have to say what you were smoking, LOL. Just to be safe, sometimes it is wise to be checked. I would say it is more than likely the strained muscle though.iam a fellow smoker also and i understand some of your symtoms.it could be that you pulled something or you might want to check your blood pressure.....thse were some of my symtoms and mine was really high and im now takeing meds for it.still smoke-nI was smoking plain cigarettes and I had the same feeling. I was forced to stop for a while, I think the reason is because doing it alone without company makes it unhealthy, and studies have shown that. Please stop smoking! You are killing youself if you continue to smoke .Please take the help of your doctor to find out what is wrong now!

ive been trying for ages and have completly given up giving up. need tips and suggestions please? as nothing ive tried seems to workI quit smoking in April of this year!! I found that the patch works, but other family members have used the lozenge and gone cold turkey. In fact my grandmother after 60+ years of smoking used the lozenge about 4 years ago, and she still uses it (though not as often as smoking). The people that I know that go cold turkey, don-t last long.
Another little tip that really helped me when I quit was whenever the urge came on, take a quick, deep breath (like you would if you inhaled a drag). That-s all that smoking is..that-s why it feels like such a relief when you smoke that cigarette.

I hope I helped a little and I wish you the best of luck!!!nicotine gum, it helps a lot1. Remove any tobacco - containing product from your mouth and dispose of it sensibly.
2. Don-t put any more tobacco - containing products in your mouth.

Follow these two simple steps and hey presto! you have stopped smoking. There is a good method to quit smoking. (talk with your doctor first about your overall health.) You use cream of tarter ( use for baking) and mix one teaspoon with an 8oz glass of orange juice. The cream of tarter naturally detoxes your body of the nicotine levels. Do this for 30 days. ( mornings are best) and after 30 you should be able to stop smoking as your body no longer craves the nicotine. Good Luck! :)I used nicorette gum, it helped a lot. I chew -regular- gum now if I really get a craving. I must admit, every now and then I still have a cigarette, about 5-10 times a year.

Good luck...You can do it!Change to rolling you own tobacco with tips in the end.

You will not give up smoking, but it will save you some money and not cause so much nuisance as the straight ordinary cigarettes which cause so much smoke.

They will still kill you, but they don-t say when!Once you learn the benefits of healtthy living you will never think of smokingA combination of Welbutrin and a patch is a good way. Just a suggestion and you-ll need to visit a dr for the Rx. Good Luck!go cold turkey.Patches are good, but you won-t stop unless you have some will power too!Don-t put another cigarette in your mouth! It-s crap and you wouldn-t eat crap would you?I stopped smoking 3 years ago by a session of hypnotherapy. Haven-t had a ciggy or wanted one since!

It is quite expensive (i paid around £300) but as I smoked 20 a day for 15 years it payed for itself within 3 months of giving up (money I would have spent on ciggys)

I-m not sure where you are based but here is a website that has a list of hypnotherapists in Merseyside UK If you search on the net I-m sure you could find one in your area.

Hope this helps
Good Luck

Just give up.Ive stopped smoking 5 years this December ,i had been smoking since i was 14 went up to 20 a day more at week ends im 50 now iam better for it just do it WILL POWER the best cure good luckI-ve tried and failed so the only thing left for me is to be locked in a room for a month with no cigarettes it should work but not very practical!!Don-t buy any ciggies. This news story might help (not for sensitive people)

Just quit. Chew gum or something.by stopping it.Hypnosis did it for me (and I wasn-t a big believer before that, well, still don-t find it to be anything magical) and a couple of my friends said that acupuncture is good, but don-t know about that personally. Check that your hypnotist is legimate (listed) and ask for references before though.

Also, you can try arranging a situation where you can-t smoke. It may help for the first two or three weeks, like rent a cottage, or give your money to a friend and go to a trip where you can-t ask anyone for a cig and can-t buy any. This is good even if you do go back to smoking, as you will notice that it doesn-t hurt, it-s actually quite ok to be without one.i found it to be more about will power then anything else. keep active and find a hobby (if even for a short time).....Remember you are stronger then the Cig.As an ex-smoker the only thing that worked for me was cold turkey. I tried EVERYTHING else! The patch, gum, smoke-away, cutting back, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, you name it. But until i decided I didn-t need it anymore nothing worked. I just woke up one morning and decided i didn-t need to smoke anymore and quit. I was embarrased in public, was setting a terrible example for my daughter, and my husband hated it. It has been almost 10 months and I feel great. It is so much better not smoking! Now I am not a slave to nicotine and i din-t have to worry about where I go, if I could smoke or not. Just be strong, are you really going to let a little stick control your life?I wish I knew the answer to that. I would make a fortuneTalk to your doctor about Welbutrin, It-s an antidepresant that has been found to relieve the tension of quitting smoking. You have to have a good reason for wanting to give up and just focus on that!keep yourself busy get a job were you cant smoke and you can get nicoten replica cigarette they are good ask your chemist pharmacy that way if you get the replica ciggie you can reach for it all its down to is having something in your hand it will workTalk to your doctor. Right now the best treatment is some sort of nicotine replacement (patch or gum) combined with Xyban or Welbutrin to help with anxiety associated with quiting.Sheer will-power is the only way to do it.
There-s endless -advice- and facts etc out there for the taking, but when it comes down to it, you just have to -not smoke-.You-ve probably tried it, but I found the patch to be pretty helpful. You have to have willpower, but it helps with the cravings. If you want to stop, just stop.

I know it-s not as easy as that, but it was the only way that worked for me.

It really is about willpower – don-t waste your money on patches and gums. They do nothing but cost you the money you-re saving on not buying cigarettes. It took me about three tries but I haven-t smoked for over two years now.

Whenever you want a cigarette, stop. Think about the smell. Think about the health risks. Think about that phlegmy cough. Think about the people around you. Think about anything that will put you off lighting up.

I can-t stress enough that it-s simply up to you! You want to stop, so stop! All the best, and I-m sure you can do it.Go online and look up pictures of the damage that cancer does to your body. This oughta do it. I quit cold turkey six years ago. ALso, think of what you want to live for, the good and precious things you want to look forward to that will be robbed from you if you get cancer. If you shorten your life, you will not get to see your grandkids, or your kids- important life milestones.
