How can i stop smoking, have being smoking for 6 years? please help? -

there are things to help you such as patches, lozengers, hypnosis, acupuncture etc etc but unfortunately the main thing you have to have is will power and lots of it.
Weigh up all the pros and cons get yourself to your g.p and you-ll find that you can get patches etc on perscription.
Wish you the best of luckSome people can quit over night if they want to quit bad enough. It is harder for some people than others. My son quit about three years ago. It had to be difficult but he never said a word about wanting a cigarette. Never touched them again because he was thinking of his health and knew that smoking wasn-t good for him. He smoked for 20 years.
You can do it this way. If you really make up your mind that you want to quit. Do it. You will be so much better off for it. You-ll have better reports from your doctor when you go. Your blood work will be so much better.
Good luck. Hope you do it.hi i heard that acupuncture is fantastic and i think its free through your GP goodluckI quit a 5 pack a day habit and after smoking for 55 years.

I tried the patch, gum, lozenge, inhaler, welluburtin, Zyban, and Hypnoses They all failed because they are aimed at the 1/2 pack a day smoke Example the low level is for the person that doesn-t lite up for a 1/2 hour after getting up, Not the person that lights up on the way to the bathroom

Step #1 you really have to have the incentive to quit. Like find someone on oxygen and ask about their life

My final step one, they were goning to raise cigarette taxes another $10 a carton (3rd year in a row) to be -used- for public Pre Pre Pre school at smokers only expense

My method was to record how ofthen I had a smoke for the first week, Then every week I spaced the smokes another 5 min apart. When I got down to 1/2 pack a day a Dr gave me some Ativan for nic fits. I only used a couple pills, been smoke free for 23 months

I was sick for about 14 months while some of the crap left my systemI went to my doctor and got some Welbutrin which helped take the edge off while I went cold turkey and then after about 2 months I stopped the Welbutrin and haven-t had 1 since. I don-t like the gum, my brother-in-law tried the laser and that didn-t work. Good luck what ever you try it-s hard but the most important thing to do is find a good support system, if ever I was getting to the point I felt I wanted a ciggy I would call my best friend and we-d start chatting and I would almost forget all about the craving.
If you don-t already start working out a few days a week, finding another healthy -fix- helps too. And keep a lot of gum or hard candies around.see your doctor and get some nicotine patches on prescription I did although I am not strong willed I found it fairly easy

p.s. I smoked 20+ a day for 30 yearsvery easy, just left it. i have left it several times.Go on the patches they really do take the craving awayI found nicotine replacement chewing gum helped me.The patches are slow release nicotine, unlike a cigarette which gives an immediate hit. Some patients find the nicotine nasal spray really good as it too gives an immediate hit.

Also, don-t think of it as giving up. Just think -today I-m not going to have one-. Before you know it, it will be bedtime and then the following morning you can tell yourself the same thing. Days turn into weeks and then you will be -safe-.

Smoking causes cancer of the oesophagus (food pipe), larynx (voice box), lung, stomach, bladder and causes the arteries to block leading to heart attacks, strokes (visit the poor bastards on a dementia ward who-ve had frontal lobe dementia secondary to stroke), limb death and amputation. It reduces fertility and, if you do become pregant, will damage the baby to some extent.

It leads to respiratory failure and a horrible, suffocating existence on oxygen if you develop emphysema or COPD.

If there is one thing you can do that-s good for your body it is giving up smoking.

You can do it - good luck!!I am alongside you and also trying to stop. I have cut right down to 2 or 3 cigarettes a day by slowly cutting down each day. I mark how many cigarettes are in the packet each day and have tried to make it one less over a few days. I could not do a reduction day by day so go at it slowly and it is not so bad. Knowing they are there in desperate measures makes it easier and I feel quite proud each time I drop to a lower number. Worth a try. By the way a Dr told me I would never do it this way which gave me more incentive to ensure I did!!!nicotine patch - gumStop smoking with immediate effect. If you have any side effects, consult the doctor.Hypnosis works great.Just simply your determination to stop is good enough. Can-t believe? Your mind and your determination is stronger than your need for a smoke. Hence you can do it. The body needs the smoke but the mind is stronger than the body. So just decide and quit. If your body-s need for smoking is really strong, you will have to suffer more. You should be willing to go through that pain. If you are a chain smoker, the Nicotine level in your blood may be so high that sudden stopping may be really bad for you. If so, go for Nicotine patches. These are stickers which are stuck to your skin and give Nicotine through the skin to your blood. So you can control the Nicotine intake without damaging your lungs further. Take care not to get addicted to the patches!! :D My best wishes are there for you. Go ahead and win!!Do it in stages! Don-t reach for a smoke first thing in the morning, wait until coffee time for your first of the day. After a week, resist the urge until lunch time. Another week and limit your first cigarette to after 4pm. Yet another week and don-t touch the things until after the evening meal etc. etc.
You will find this by far the best way to cut out the habit, providing you stick to the regime rigidly. If you cheat, you will die of cancer at an early age.stop smoking by taking lollypops(chocolate)I sympathise with you,Candice.Looking back,it seemed easy.March 2005.The reasons I gave up are:
a)constant wheezing at night, you can hear the sound!Your body-s warning that things are going to get worse.
b)The gross globules of tar coming out of your mouth in the morning.Your lungs trying to rejecting the poison ingested.
c)the financial cost of twenty cigarettes and constantly looking out for non smoking friends who are going on holiday!
d)The MOST IMPORTANT reason;my kids would complain, sometimes, walking behind me about the smoke. That was the clincher plus the ad on TV where the old man died before his daughter-s wedding.

Basically,Candice,I grew up so that I could watch my kids grow up.You have to ask yourself, are you worth it?Self esteem is everything.Stop wallowing in self pity! You have only one life. The worst period was the first three weeks.Tell people to support you.It means more when your family supports you.

I gave up by going to a decent doctor who will talk to you more the allocated ten minutes. He gave me some Nicorette patches. It recommends that you take it off before going to bed.I kept it for over twenty four hours at a time.Personal choice, what is right for you.Ater four days I knew I had it licked because I couldnt go into a pub or smoky areas.Saved more money!

I wish you all the best,Candice.I will pray for you.Start loving yourself, get self esteem back.I have put two stones on but I am happy with that.I love myself for giving up.Don-t give up on giving up!Good luck,Candice.Replace one addiction with another...a healthier one like weight lifting /Cardio.Four main ways--

Cold turkey--Immediantly Stop smoking
Cutting Down--- Reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke over a period of time.
Nicotine Replacement Therepy---Gum, Patches, Nasal Spray
Other Treatments---Hypnosis,accupunture

Each way depends on the individual.Hi,
willpower!!! is what you need. I gave up smoking, 14 months ago and still going strong, I smoked for 15yrs. I did it for my kids. Now I realise what a horrible stinky person I was, I get loads more kisses and cuddles now. My boyfriend is trying to give up now, he has been smoking for 30yrs.He is doing it for his 1yr old grandaughter.
Good luckLearn to love yourself, and when you do, you won-t dream off abusing your body with this obnoxious habbit......Hypnosis. Get to the root cause. Read Sondra Ray. Speak out loud to -your feelings- and tell them firmly that from now on smoking disgusts you and you no longer want that, and tell yourself that you now enjoy breathing pure air instead.

The subconscious will NOT give up anything unless you give it something to replace it with. (Pure air). And that-s the secret to hypnosis (and why so many fail). Google Dick Sutphen CDs and read Serge Kahili King (on how to talk to your subconscious). Just giving firm commands to your subconscious out loud works. Try it. Good luckThere is two ways to help you stop smoking, 1. Try sucking on a Lime when you feel the urge to smoke and do this until you don-t have anymore urges to smoke and also while doing this, try to keep your hands and mind occupied as much as possible and stay away from people that either encourage you to smoke or smoke alot themselves, this helps to stave off temptation to smoke. 2. Lick some salt a couple of times a day then go see if you feel like lighting up.Just make sure you keep your mouth occupied with something while trying to quit, replace that cig with something else. Good Luck !I tried it all to quit for years! I found only one way that worked for me, won-t unless you-re really religious tho. I wrote out a promise to God that I wouldn-t put another cigarette in my mouth. Hard to break that kind of promise!! I thought long and hard before doing that but it worked. That was 15 years ago!

u need to c a doctor@ Logicmarty

Actually, the stomach can fail if you were to attempt non-stop eating, hence why people throw up.
If you were to hold it in and continue eating, you can get ULCERS and eventually tear your stomach.
Smoking won-t be as quick to take effect, so you-ll get hurt from eating first.

Non stop smoking would be worse because it does permanent damage to your body.

Adding to the answer below. if you non stop ate, you would still go to the toilet and poo it out and or throw it back up so therefore impossible for your stomach to burst, non stop smoking you can suffocate yourself before you put down your packet of 40s.The stomach is meant for food. Stuffing it just makes you fatter. IF you like becoming a big fat slob, then that-s your problem.
The lungs are meant for breathing, NOTHING ELSE. Those who use their lungs for something else are just not very bright (no matter how many college degrees they have or what their position is in society is.Well, since it-s non-stop, eating would be worse.
Because your stomach would burst before smoking would deal any damage.see where it brings you
