How to stop Smoking? -
my old friend has issues with smoking, she won-t stop. She has smoked since I-ve known her in the mid 9oS. I am WORRIED about the side effects of smoking and what it can do to her. She-s my son-t mother also. I DON-T want her to DIE from smoking and leave me and our son by our selves. II have tried to talk to her to quit but it-s NO use, what can I do.Keep putting a picture of your son in the plastic of her pack... I had a friends that did that with me, she kept putting pics of my kids in my packs and that got me to stop cold turkey.
maybe she-ll realize like I did, that my kids and your son, need us around to watch and help them grow up to become good kids and even better adults.tell her to eat mints everytime she needs a smoke, my dad quit by dipping, or take her to a place that has them people with a hole in their throat and i know how u feel kinda my uncle died a couple of months ago form lung cancer it was to late to cureAlan Carr-s -The Easy Way to Stop Smoking- is great for anyone who desires to quit.
For someone who doesn-t, only death will end it.
All I can suggest is to lovingly keep her aware that it is not good for her or your son (second-hand smoke is very bad), and it would be best for everyone if she were to quit. There is a fine line between reminding and nagging. Don-t nag.just buy her this book. (best $15 you-ll ever spend)

pass this link to your smoking friendsYou probably cannot convince her to stop. A smoker has to want to quit smoking to quit. All the patches, gums, etc will not work until you get the mindset that you are going to stop. I am fighting the same battle with my husband. It is not easy. My worrying and crying is not helping either. The best I can say to you is have a sit down with you, your son and his mom. Tell her how much you love her, tell her much you need her, tell her how hard it would be to live without her. Try to get her to make an appointment with her doctor as their are new drugs now that help you stop with going into nicotine withdrawal as bad.
If she smokes around you and your son too remind her that she may be killing the two of you and well as herself. Second hand smoke kills-make her believe it.

what are the most effective ways to stop smoking?there are many methods...the patch...the gum...cold turkey...support groups...medications like welbutrin or chantix...i think it just depends on the person as to which is more effective.I gave up successfully 16 years ago - i had the motivation but i used acupuncture to help manage the side effects. Haven-t had a single smoke since.I quit cold turkey. 12 years ago. I wrote a phrase every morning and put it in my top pocket where I carried cigarettes and every time I reached for a cigarette I pulled out the card with the Phrase on it. I will give you one for the first day and then you can make them up. If I don-t smoke today I will have more tomorrows. After about 3 months I was home free. And I did not gain weight either.try doing other stuff like exercising. healthy activities etc. if you want to smoke, try biting a gum. and hang out with non smokers so you wont be tempted to smoke. eat healthily. distract yourself from smoking by doing other activites. like making new friends. try mediating exercises too.I think it-s different for everyone. I was finally able to quit and I had my kids as my primary motivation. Every time I think of smoking I think about how it affects them. To get over the initial part- use gum, hard candies, stop smoking patch/gum/prescription- anything you think might help.
The more you plan in advance and are ready the more successful you will likely be.For me it was cold turkey. My boyfriend of the time cried because his family members were dying of lung cancer and told me to quit smoking or he will leave me because he doesn-t want to deal with the hurt again. So I was annoyed but I did it and 3 years later I have an 18 month old daughter and will never take it up again.you need a hobby that you love to do. i quit by snorkeling as much as i could. something simple like that. something that won-t get you frustrated. How to effectively quit smoking? -

i gained 25 pounds and my sister gained more. i was just wondering if anybody else had this problem. Not everyone gains weight with Chantix. Most don-t. For more Chantix information, click the following link:

No matter how you quit smoking with or without any prescription drug expect to gain at least 7 lbs. even if you do not increase the amount of food you eat. That is because more oxygen gets into your body. Of course your appetite also increases. This is standard with just about everyone. It is just a matter of degree.
On the other hand when you smoked just think how bad off you were by your body being deprived of this much needed oxygen among other things of course. Now just get into the habit of eating sensibly and exercising daily and you will feel like a million bucks. My step-mom did and its a common effect with any stop smiking tool that you gain weight. You just need to be carfeul with what you eat and how often you eat. A way to curb this from happening is to add on fresh green veggie to your diet a day like a salad. And instead of pouring the dressing on just dip it. You get the same flavor and you will use ALOT less. Hope this helps!Did anyone hear of anybody gaining weight if they stopped smoking with the prescription drug chantix.? -

Nicotine make your brain cells think its at a party, relaxes and excites at the same time. this feeling quickly goes away when you haven-t had a cigarette after a while and then the brain is like, hey where-s the party? I WANT TO PARTY!!! That-s when you reach for another cigarette.
The only way to get over this is to ride it out. The shakes won-t kill you. The cancer willI don-t smoke, but have seen my mother through various attempts at doing it.
These symptoms sound like withdrawal, but if you are using one of the many aids, I would suggest looking at the leaflet that comes with it, as there are many - varied side effects from these.
I would always say to check with your doc/nurse or who ever is seeingyou through your withdrawal.
I know my mum is currently finding the drug called Champix (UK) to be a great help. Although she still feels the occassional craving for a ciggy, she also has no compultion to put one in her mouth, in fact the thought repulses her.
She has tried various thing in the past, from just pure will power through patches (both 16hr - al day ones) to gum, infact I think she has had everything going to help her stop.
Anyway, GL, I hope you manage to stay off them!Buy yourself a copy of Allan Carr - Easy way to stop smoking. This will be all you need to stop. I stopped smoking myself after reading this book as did many of my friends and family. It was recommended to me and is now the only thing I recommend to people who ask.
NRT rarely works as you cannot cure an addiction by feeding it!

It-s surprising how quickly they work.

It-s an addiction and every year tobacco companies increase the amount of nicotine in your cigarette to keep you hooked! Also, you really have to want to quit and then it takes a lot of effort. You need a plan to replace smoking with sports or another activity. Try the help of a professional....doctor, acupuncturist, non-smoking clinic. Many health insurances cover these services.try champix if u r in Europe or chantix if u-re in us. it-s a new medicine from Pfizer and i heard it works very well, even for people smoking more than 20 years. You lack will power and discipline.
You might also observe that a few nonsmokers are humorless and self-righteous, especially ex-smokers,and you don-t want to become like them.
Seriously, though, try this: decide that you-ll only smoke after 6 pm. Try to go without before, but remember that at 6 you can smoke all you want. Keep trying evenif you fail. Soon you-ll see that it-s easier and easier to wait and even not smoke so many. You-ll cut down a lot. You-ll even get to the point where you can quit easily.
BTW, smokng is not physically addictive--there are no physical withdrawal symptoms and lots of people manage to quit. It-s really much more of a psychological need.Smoking is addictive and your body needs nicotine. But although this is true the strongest reason is usually because of the sycological addiction.
People are getting tempted to smoke just by having nothing to do. Smoking gives you the ability to let bored or tense moments paste faster and while trying to stop any of these occasions could be a temptation more than just the need for nicotine.
But all is possible almost 70% of all smokers stop smoking some time in their live. Make it rather sooner than later.
Find something to keep you bussyNicotine is the main culprit for your difficulty in refraining from smoking.
In low concentrations (an average cigarette yields about 1 mg of absorbed nicotine), the substance acts as a stimulant in mammals and is one of the main factors responsible for the dependence-forming properties of tobacco smoking. According to the American Heart Association, -Nicotine addiction has historically been one of the hardest addictions to break.- The pharmacologic and behavioral characteristics that determine tobacco addiction are similar to those that determine addiction to drugs such as heroin and cocaine.
When a cigarette is smoked, nicotine-rich blood passes from the lungs to the brain within seven seconds and immediately stimulates the release of many chemical messengers including acetylcholine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, vasopressin, arginine, dopamine, and beta-endorphin. This results in enhanced pleasure, decreased anxiety, and a state of alert relaxation. Nicotine enhances concentration, learning, and memory due to the increase of acetylcholine. It also enhances alertness due to the increases of acetylcholine and norepinephrine. Arousal is increased by the increase of norepinephrine. Pain is reduced by the increases of acetylcoholine and beta-endorphin. Anxiety is reduced by the increase of beta-endorphin. The effects of nicotine last from five minutes to two hours. Most people who use nicotine do so several times a day (the average smoker smokes about 20 cigarettes in a 24-hour period).[citation needed] They do this in an effort to keep the pleasant effects of nicotine throughout the day and to avoid withdrawal. Most cigarettes (in the smoke inhaled) contain 0.1 to 2.8 milligrams of nicotine.
Modern research shows that nicotine acts on the brain to produce a number of effects. Specifically, its addictive nature has been found to show that nicotine activates reward pathways—the circuitry within the brain that regulates feelings of pleasure and euphoria.Cigarette has caffiene and nicotine which goes into your blood when you smoke, that nicotine is addictive and your body keeps demanding it everytime you show feelings, either happy or sad. It is because of this you keep smoking, there are many ways to stop. Patches, Will power which help.I used this site when I quit and it always gave me the support, the reality check and the swift kick in the behind. Take a few minutes to check it out... then you-ll find you-ll quit.
Good luck!

Whats harder losing weight or stop smoking? -
Losing weight isn-t nearly as hard. I lost 87 lbs, and it wasn-t extremely hard. If I go more than 2 hours without a cigarette, I-m ready to die.I would say that it is different for everybody but from my personal experience it is much harder to quit smoking then it is to loose weight. I started dieting 3 weeks ago and already lost 13 pounds and feel great but i have been smoking much more and can-t seem to quit.I did both and for me it was loosing weight. I smoked for over 20 years and quit cold turkey, hard but do-able. Im still trying to loose another 10 lbs and its taking me monthsWhats harder losing weight or stop smoking? -
