You know all the usual responses (save money, be healthier, lower your risk of lung cancer and chronic lung disease etc). So I would like to remind you that you-ll have a much wider choice of friends (some people really can-t stand the smell) and be welcome in many more places (homes, restaurants etc). What is also important is that - once you-ve got over the initial withdrawal phase, which is a pain in any addiction - you-ll be able to get on with your life without a constant anxiety about whether you have got your drug with you, whether you can buy it when you run out etc.
What can be both a difficulty and a benefit is that you will no longer be able to suppress all feelings instantly. This means you will have to feel things - sometimes painful things - which can be tough, but does also mean you-ll feel more fully alive and in touch with yourself. So forget the living LONGER - the real issue is living more FULLY.Feel better about yourself. Dont have to waste your money on them! and of course LIVE!Saving lots of money.
Fewer chest infections.
Senses of taste and smell return to normal.
Process of premature ageing, particularly of skin, stops.
Bad breath and unpleasant odours in hair and on clothes disappears.
Staining of skin and teeth lessens.
Danger of setting fire to home decreases.
Life expectancy increases due to decreased risk of contracting cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and circulatory problems.Save money less for the Government to waste has they do not give it to the NHS.saving £5:50 a dayThe multitude of benefits are listed on the American Cancer Society link below.LIFE.
Dr. MYou would think from reading all the responses that people actually care about smokers health, in fact, they don-t, they only care about their own health and convenience. And anyway, their health isn-t at risk, because the passive smoking argument is just an exaggerated scare story.
I can accept it almost anywhere apart from those pubs where the owner chooses to retain it. That is a small compromise for the intolerant ones to make, but they wont even do that.
The benefits that are claimed for stopping smoking are obviously valid. However, you could make a claim to ban alcohol and contact sports, being nasty, and being rude and intolerant to other people. Actually, causing stress to others in whatever way, has a much greater affect on health than passive smoking. There is more to life than trying to live as long as you can. Pubs. are about socialising, not proving how puritanical you can be by exchanging stories about what other nasty things you don-t do, and therefore, should also be banned.
Sorry, but I didn-t want to just repeat the usual mantras.you die quickeryou dont need to buy anymore ash trays..you-ll be able to play with your grandchildren and your grandchildren-s children :)You stabilise any COPD, progressively reduce your heart attack and lung cancer risk. Best of all you will feel better!your taste buds come back and you get to taste yummy food LOL
plus you dnt get out of breath, you feel healthier and you become more active ;)life
white teeth
no cancer
list goes on...
seriously i would try to quit asap, its not worth itSurely you know the answer to that, all them ads you see. Prolongs your life, don-t make you smell, a lot richer person blah blah!ask your docter the same think. maybe he-ll have a better answer.do you mean the obvious benefits, like more money in your pocket not smelling of smoke, or the health benefits like lungs working again, blood pumping properly, not dying so young?
We had a neighbour who smoked 80 a day, she was 84, her daughter was dying of cancer, she was mortified that her daughter would die before her, she was 100% healthy at the time. She stopped smoking and two years later died.NOT dying of lung cancer...You wont smell like a smelly ashtray, others can inhale around you without inhaling your smoke. Financially you will be much better off!! You will feel better!!!you will not get CHD with causes you to have an heart attack your breath will smell better you teeth will be whitter you will be much fitter you could add up to 15 years to your life and if you smoke you could end up breathing through a tube in your neck by 60, you lose hair qiucker and you can get lung cancer ( and thats not all.......)I know its not easy but for myself I am not as irritable, thinking about the next time I-ll be able to smoke my next cig. It gets to be inconvenient at times. I think I smell better. I save 5 bucks a day. I won-t get into the -health- reasons, but my kids will hopefully see me for many more years than they would have if I continue smoking.you live longer dummyWhat are the benefits of stopping smoking? -
How can I permanently stop smoking? -
How can I permanently stop smoking? -
I-ve been smoking for about 3-4 years now.
I have maybe like a pack or 2 every 3 days.
I smoke like 7-13 cigarettes in a day I-m not sure tho.
I get a feeling in my throat sometimes, rarely it doesn-t hurt or anything like that.
I haven-t tried nicotine patches or gum.
I can-t keep myself busy, when I-m bored I smoke.
After I eat I smoke.
And every mourning about a hour or two later I have a smoke.
I want to quit so I can save money and be healthy agian.
Can anyone please if they no a secret or steps or anything like that, I don-t want to do something crazy and buy a whole bunch or product to help you quit smoking, I want to quit before it-s to late.It takes more of a will power to quit smoking. Those products are of no help if you are not willing. I-m at the same state as you. I can see my money being wasted on these stupid sticks that I don-t even want yet I need them. so yeah it does get frustrating.
I-ve used nicotine patches , I worked , but after I stopped I started smoking again . Soon i realized , I didn-t want to stop at all. Ciggerates serve as a partner to smokers, when we-re alone, bored or anything , all we can think of is smoking. right?
Anyways , try these.
1. Fix a date from when you are ready to stop till your target date to totally stop.
2. Star cleaning the closet. Wash , perfume , throw all the clothes that might have smell of your ciggs.
3. Throw away all ash-trays.
4. Avoid people who smoke. or second hand smoking.
5. Your cravings now will get even more, so roll a paper and pretend that you are smoking(not in public). Or get those nicotine chewing gums to help you for a while.
6. Now that your cravings are even more then ever, start a hobby. Start sketching or graffiti writing or take a loooooooooooooooonggg jog. Avoid watching someone smoking on TV.
7. No matter how much you wanna smoke, tell yourself NO. jsut another hour , keep saying that untill you feel comfortable.
I advise you to get some patch , for extra help. You need extremely strong will power to stop smoking. The addiction won-t go away , you have to push it away. And furits help a lot. eat a looot of fruits if you feel like smoking. Just do healthy things.
\
\I can guarantee you , that you can-t quit smoking on the first attempt , so first try lowering the amount of smoking. I used to smoke right after I opend my eyes , now I only smoke before starting work. you can do something similar. Smokers need to smoke after a meal , so maybe you can start cutting that out and gradually you-ll improve.
These are some personal adivce. I -vnt suceeded yet , I hope you do.
=DThe only way that really works is just to quit cold turkey. When you do this, there-s something called the -3-day hump-. For the first 3 days it-s gonna be unbearable, you-re gonna have cravings like crazy, but that-s the nicotine working its way out of your system... it takes 3 full days for your body to get rid of it. It gets alot easier after that, but that-s the best way to do it.
I know the patches, gum, and all the other stuff sound like great ideas, but they don-t really work. They have nicotine in them, so basically you just torment your body... it never has a chance to rid itself of the toxin (nicotine). Anyway, I wish you luck, I-ve been down that road, and It-s hard as hell, but it-s worth it in the end. There are quite a few stop-smoking support websites out there, and you can find some really good info. You just have to have the willpower to put em down and walk away in the end... you gotta really want it.umm.. idk.. you could always ask god for help? You have to be sick and tired of being sick and tired. You have to be really serious about quitting, and not -just because it-s expensive-. I mean, you have to get rid of them completely, not -slow down-, and just STOP!. I smoked for 36 years, a pack a day, and until I started to feel absolutely SICK from smoking, I never really quit. I tried probably 15 times, and I just GOT SICK OF IT! That is the only way your going to quit, to be completely ready. Then, you don-t need gum or patches, or anything else, you just want to taste your food, and breathe your air.Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile. My dad smoked until the Surgeon Generals report came out in the sixties and he quit becasue of the evidence of the damage smoking causes. I, on the other hand, started when I was twelve and at age 42 am still smoking. I have quit in the past, I know I can quit,I just start smoking because of the stress because in my life, I do not feel I have anyone I can be rely on for the difficulties I face .So logically, to stop smoking permanently, just never have a smoke again, Emotionally and habitually, you may need a support systemfind another habbitt...bite ur nailz or sumtin!the new drug chantex i know many people including my husband who used it and quit and are still not smoking he quit over a year ago ....he can-t even stand to smell them
he smoked constantly since he was 12 yrs old 3 to 4 packs a day he smoked over 2 cartons a wk he wa 46 when he stopped and my sister stopped also when i told her she got chantex also and she told me several of her co workers had used it and stop also and not started back it has some side effects but minor nausea - gas is about it.Perhaps you could investigate a web search for -nicorette activestop-.How can I permanently stop smoking? -

Haw to stop smoking for ever? -
whenever u it comes to ur mind. u just think it
-I Don-t like Smoking -
or
-Smoking? What-s that?-
mind it. it really works, on me as well.I quit by using Nicoderm CQ.
Identify your triggers. Mine were behind the steering wheel, on the phone - when I had a cup of coffee.
Find healthy substitutes, such as celery or carrot sticks; hard candy.
Drink lots of distilled water to pull the nicotine out of your body quickly.
Suck on cinnamin sticks to help with the hand-mouth addiction.
By a tea called Lobelia. It tricks the body into thinking it-s getting nicotine when it isn-t, AND it helps calm you down as you go through withdrawal.I watched a TV program about stopping smoking.
Look into a mirror and say
-I CAN STOP SMOKING- many times.
self-suggestion works for real :)
Good luck :Di smoked for 16 years been off them since 1983 talk to tha american cancer societyThis method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago
Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.
Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”
The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS
Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.
It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!
Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.
The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….
TO BE FREE!
What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?
The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.
The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.
No Gimmicks!
The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!
The Allen Carr Method is successful because:
It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.
Medical Endorsements
A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health
“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”
Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees
“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”
Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital
“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”
Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong
“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”
Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London
”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”
Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP
“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”
Celebrity Endorsements
-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson
“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

Is this a symtom of quitting smoking? -
Is this a symtom of quitting smoking? -
I have been an avid smoker for around 8 to 9 years doing anywhere from a pack a day to around a pack and a half.
I have just recently stopped smoking due to a promise I made my pregnant girlfriend because well, she stopped due to the baby and to become more healthy, I stopped to reduce her cravings and stress, and well, for my health deep down inside.
Shortly after quitting, I soon found myself dozing off at midnight - 1 AM and noticing I cough a lot shortly after getting to sleep and feel extremely nauseous. This proceeds for a few hours until I can finally get to sleep.
What is this?
I was told that smoking acts as a sedative or an anesthesia to your alveoli (small air sac-s in your lungs where the tar resides), and when you stop smoking this is removed and the alveoli are trying to kick out the negative particles and bringing in healthy regeneration to the alveoli. You were given correct information. Your lungs are just trying to kick the junk out of your lungs and the cigarettes used to provide chemicals to keep that from happening. Congratulations and good for you!! I don-t mean that in a condescending way-I-m jealous- I-ve been trying to quit for awhile. Keep up the good work.Yes, you-ll find a lot of strange symptoms when you quit smoking. I gave up 4 years ago and have suffered from sinus problems since, although it-s improving, but I never had a sinus problem in all my years of smoking!
So glad you gave up. I have a neighbour who is dying from stomach cancer. He had throat cancer from smoking and it was cured, except it spread to his stomach after that.
He had a row with his wife on Saturday, she wanted him to stop smoking and drinking alcohol to try to prolong his life. They had a huge row and she left him. Yesterday he set light to their house and sheds and has now been taken to a physchiatric hospital. The house and contents wasn-t insured. They have nothing.
All that from smoking! He is just another person in the long list of people that I-ve known who-ve died from the effects of smoking. Is this a symtom of quitting smoking? -

Did Zyban helped you to stop smoking? -
Did zyban ever helped you to stop smoking, did you just taking the tablets and countine to smoking till after a week then you lose willing to smoke? I am trying to stop smoking, I began to take tablets last week.. but dying for a puff! i even kept meself busy by taking 2 dogs out for a walk 4 times a day, housework to avoid thinking about cigs its just so hard! how did you manage to stop?Zyban and chantix both made me bat-sh*t crazy within a week or two...
I switched to Americn Spirits for a couple weeks, and they dont have nearly the same amount of cravings to them...made it a lot easier.
I quit for a few months that way - and then hit a real rough patch in my life,,,went back...but thats the longest I have ever quit.you could try the same way i quit smoking. I use to smoke almost a pack a day, then i tryed... yes a little marry jane and every time i got a craving i just did that instead. After a while i never really thought about cigarette anymore. After a few months i dropped that habit and now i have been smoke free for 3 years.
(im not encouraging anything im just sharing my my experiences)4 years ago I decided to give up smoking so when I only had one fag left in the packet I said to myself -Once this has gone there will be no more fags for me-I havent smoked since. Its been hard but sheer determination made me do it.I wish you luck.Did Zyban helped you to stop smoking? -
Can I tel a fat person to stop stuffing his/her face? -
Can I tel a fat person to stop stuffing his/her face? -
I tell people I care about to stop smoking because I dont want to see them dead soon, so if I see a FAT person I care about stuffing their face with twinkies why would it be wrong to tell them not to?
of course people that are fat because they-re sick don-t countI think it should be okay to do so because we should care about one another. I think the reason people take offense is: you can put the cigarette out and sneer at the person nagging you. You can-t take your fat off and say, -Are you happy now?-Depending upon whom you say this to, you could end up with a stuffed face - stuffed with their fist, for example. It-s not a reaction that I would condone, but it could happen.
You could express an overall concern about that person-s health, but you can-t influence their decisions.it-s not your business, son.
worry about yourself, let others take care of themselves.you can try..but if you tried it on me I would ...you know..hurt you...you see fat people are fat for different reason ..most of the time its not just eating..I didn-t put on weight until my parents broke up..in a way its a security blanket..is sad ..but smokers and drinkers are really depress persons as well..you should look at your self and and help your self..I am sure I could find some faults for you to work on..one I think your gay..lets start there..no dyck for you..if you care about them, then sure...but i doubt it will help, because fat people don-t care about anyone or anything but food..that is how they got that way....It-s really not your business, what another adult does, just let them be happy and leave people alone.you can def tell them.... just be like -hey lardass.... how bout layin off all the cheeseburgersWell there is reasons why they are addicted to eating what ever it maybe may not be your business. If you know the person you could ask them why ? My personal experience is when they get tired of being over weight they will do some thing about it you can support them then. If they don-t care then there is just no hope. this comes from a person who got up to 200lbs when pregnant and it took me 1yr to get it all off to 120lbs. I still gained 15 lbs back I just got tired of being over weight.sure you can! just dont say it like that. tell them in a better way.Don-t Ever tell a person they are fat, but you can help them on the right track to eating. Instead of McDonald-s suggest a healthy alternative.-Subway,etc. Go shopping with them. No doubt they will see something they want not in their size. Bring up the idea of goal setting and then offer to go on a diet with them. Please don-t go to them and tell them,- Stop eating! your too fat.- Please. Be better than that.Bad form, Friend. Express concern, perhaps. But don-t be obnoxious.I think it-s their choice of how much they want to eat not yours. SorryI-m one of those fat people! I wish someone would tell me to stop stuffing my face. We eat and don-t even realize were doing it.
I-m 35 and 5-1 and weigh 181pounds! if people like you did that maybe I wouldn-t be so darn fat!!!!!!!!!
So to answer your question- YES PLEASE-!!!!!!!!!!!go for itNO! You should not tell them like that. Your attitude is bad form! You could, however, ask them to your house or out for an amazing salad dinner followed by a nice walk through a park or mall or around a few blocks while you both talk. That would be much better! You can-t just insult people. You should offer them a helpful solution and show your good example dressed with kindness.No. A great percent of the time it-s not what they eat, but a deeper medical problem that they don-t even know about yet, or do know but nothing can be done about it. So try and be kinder to fat people. You never know when you may turn out to be one yourself. Can I tel a fat person to stop stuffing his/her face? -
