I want to stop smoking.... pls some advice? -

hey guys..
ive been smoking for about 6 yrs... i really need to stop. my current bf doesnt like smoke and i dont smoke near him or when we are somewhere in public. i only smoke at night at home and at work during the day.

i know it doesnt look good for a girl to smoke. thats also a reason for me wanting to quit.

i have tried the gum, patches etc.

does any of u guys have some advice for me?

thnk ppl!!Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.you go to my http://jnvleo.blogspot.com

you try or follow and come back to me with good changeOk this may sound harsh but here goes.
I was in a similiar situation as you except i wanted my GF to quit smoking. Why did I want her to quit? Well the list goes on and on as far as health goes, also smoke gives me headcahes and it is gross to kiss an ashtray. ITS EVEN WORSE TO GIVE HEAD TO A WOMAN THAT SMOKES...I know from experience. You are torturing him. :-(2 ways. dip a cigarette in milk. let it dry out for a few hours then smoke it. It-ll make you never want one again.

if that doesn-t work switch to Snuff. Sniffing tobacco up you-re noses kinda sucks so you-ll do it less and less. Yes it is switching one addiction for another but snuff is much better for your health!I used to smoke before, but i dont know, just became more health concious, see unless you have the temperment and desire and the courage to stop it you will never stop,
The cure varies for people, for some people, the gums and patches work very well, but that is for people with good will power,
For some people like me, going to the health club and actually finding out that i dont have proper stamina to work out changed my life. I mean i was all skinny and stuff, and wanted to get built, but there was no chance on earth i was gonna make it with smoking, had to get rid of it, as i couldn-t complete any of my exercises properly, i would be gaasping each time, so that did help.

Well, then theres the scare of mind, infact horror, go to any hospital and look at the people suffering from smoking, you will be scared that you will also end up like that. Sometimes it works. Will power to stop is the main thing.

drink lots of water, try to stay relaxed, eat lots of fruits, you cannot stop all at once, try reducing the count, and gradually stop it one day, anyways all the best. What has worked for me are a couple of things. 1. If there is a support group in your area that is beneficial to go to.

I have a friend who has a great website to learn a lot more about why and how we smoke the address is www.besochemps.com kind of a weird name but it is well worth checking it out.

With that site there is also a live forum http://forum.besochemps.com that-s that address.

Really remember no matter what you can quit smoking.Popsicles help.
Other then that, I-m not sure.
Good luck.cold turkey.....either stop or don-t....NO CHEATING!this is a site that can help

and if it doesn-t try this on the first day you smoke for 10 minutes if you can give your self a reward on the second day try to smoke for 5 minutes if you can give yourself a reward if you cant try tomorrow then try no smoking if you Hera you did it.Wait till YOU want to quit for real. Don-t do it for somebody else. Give yourself a date in the future that you will be smoke free forever. Give yourself time to get used to it. Then just do it. No special patch or gum needed. I do recommend you have gum around for the oral fixation though. For the first few weeks stay away from smokers or situations where you can-t trust yourself. Don-t drink for a while if you can-t drink without smoking. Slowly introduce yourself back to the world of smokers little by little until it doesn-t seem like you want to rip the cigarette out of their mouthes. Remember to breath deeply often, smokers don-t do that as much and it is calming and is one reason smoking seems to make you feel better when you are aggitated. Have a plan for what you will do when the sh!t hits the fan so that you don-t run out and buy smokes. Last of all, if you fall off the wagon, just let it be for that one night and never ever just feel like you should throw in the towel.chantix is a wonder drug but it-s kinda pricey if your insurance won-t cover it... if you can-t get it buy carrots and celery.. crunchy stuff worked for me but make sure it-s healthy or you-ll start packing on the pounds.. i was also told by someone that celery has something in it that eases your nicotine craving.. also some anti depressents can ease your cravings but don-t get on those unless you absolutely have to good luck!!!Keep up the good work.MAYBE YOU SHOULD JUST DISCIPLINE YOURSELF. THINK ABOUT ALL THE RISKS THAT CAN HAPPEN. THINK ABOUT YOUR LUNGS AND HEALTH. I UNDERSTAND ITS HARD BUT IF YOUR REALLY UP FOR IT AND YOU CAN DISCIPLINE YOURSELF THEN I-M SURE YOU CAN DO IT! =]Well sweetie, I am on the same boat you-re in but it-s all about will power but I want to add, I know alot of people don-t like it when a female smokes but if your BF met u while u was smoking then you shouldn-t have to quit because it bothers him.

Quit because it-s your decision whether is for better health or whatever reason, then start by setting your goals and prioritize them as what you wish to accomplish by quitting as in, you want to be able to live longer, you don-t want wrinkles, it-s bad, etc. and next cut back start by one or two a day and then go to half a cigarette.

Hope that works :)If you want to kick the habit thats awesome yet you-ll find that to help yourself quit you need to firstly find something as in a physical action to replace the habit instead of just going cold turkey.

That could mean something as simple as chewing on toothpicks and jelly beans.

See for many people smoking takes time and gives people something to do so once you-ve replaced the habit of placing something up to your mouth you-ll find beating the nicotine addiction a heap easier. My mom took chantix for two months and is 6 months smoke free (and she-s around smokers and thinks it-s disgusting!)!!!!Make a decision to do it then do it
Understand and accept that you are going to be uncomfortable until the chemicals are out of your system. Drink lots of water, eat lots of grapefruit. It is excellent for alleviating even eliminating cravings! Visualize how you look and feel with your bad habit, then visualize how you want to be and look. Make this your vision of choice. Avoid your old smoking hangouts. Practice regular deep breathing from the belly up and out.have your bf help you, thats what i did and it has worked like a charm. ive quit now for a year. notice your targets, when you smoke the most. at work keep yourself busy and try something else for those smoke breaks. crossword or something. dont smoke in the car, the house or go to any smoking areas. when you dont smell it and you get used to it it will be easier. take out anything that reminds you of smoking. get rid of you cigarrets, ashtrays, lighters. at least clean them up and put them in a place hard to get at if your not quitting cold turkey. the farther it is away from you the less it will be on your mind and the easier it will be for you. hope it has helped. and good luck.say if you smke 20 a day for the net day try smoking 15 and then 10 then 5 then go down from 4 to 3to 2 to 1 and then put 2 patches on because one never gives you that boost like a cigarette, hope that helpsit seems like you aren-t too heavy of a smoker, seeing how you can control your smoking around your bf. for this reason, you must quit cold turkey; that-s how i did it. for about a month i was miserable, but after that it was smooth sailing. be prepared to be irritable, and have something such as gum or beef jerkey to keep your mouth busy. also make sure you have plenty of social support from friends/family so you don-t light up again.cold turkey doesn-t work i have been smoking for 11 years. i have tried the patches they didn-t work for me but they worked for my dad and his girl friend. the gum to me taste like you are chewing a cig. you could try and cut down day by day. i dont know how much you smoke a day but heres and example. say you smoke a pack a day . so for two days smoke that 20 than after those two days smoke 19 an so on and so on. or try to smoke half and put it out. then place your ashtray out of sight like on top your fridge and try to stay busy through out the day. as far as your bf if he needs to understand that it doesn-t come over night. he more and likely knew you did it before you met. but for health reasons it is good. my husband is a nonsmoker and doesn-t like that i smoke he just says i want you to quit, but i know its hard. and people who haven-t smoked wont understand it good luck to you and i hope that this helpsask your doctor about chantix! it works wonders!

How to stop smoking? -

Did you achieve to stop smoking for more than one month?
How you did?Come October 8th I will have quit smoking for 2 years =)

and it was HARD I-m not gonna lie to you it takes alot of discipline and alot of will power

What inspired me to quit was that I watched a beautiful man die from Lung Cancer ... I watched what it did to his family, I watched this cancer take a healthy, happy, 220 pound man down to a very sick, very in pain 85 pound man.

it was Thanksgiving weekend that I decided it was time to stop!! AND that-s what I did!

First I went out and bouth the patch NOT the no name brand the actual DR RECOMENDED PATCH!! it costs a little more BUT I found it worked much better!!

With the patch comes a little booklet that gives you tips and ideas Two of those ideas were to make two charts and put them on your fridge

The first chart was 50 numbered boxes and each day you x out a box ... I found watching this page fill up with x-s was very exciting and it got to the point where I couldn-t wait to x out one more day ... It really helped

the second chart was a little more time consuming and lame LOL

BUT IT WORKED GREAT

so this chart was made up of 4 colums
1- what time is it?
2-where are you?
3-who are you with?
4-what triggered the craving?

So everytime you have a craving you go to this chart and you fill it in .. I found that by the time I was done filling out this stupid chart the craving was GONE!! I did this for about one and a half weeks I figured out what my triggers were was able to prepare myself for that craving so it could not just sneak up on me =)

and here I am almost two years later and a non smoker ... you can do this!!

another thing that helped me when I had a craving and wanted to tear a smoke out of a perfect strangers hand and smoke it was this little thought:

-why do I want that smoke now I have suffered for (how ever many days) and I am not about to start over now ... because no matter how bad I want that smoke I know once I have it and I am back at it I will be wanting to quit again!!-

So there you have it .. my guide to quitting smoking!! LOL

Hopefully my novel was able to give you hope and a few good ideas .. keep us all posted as to how you are doing!!

GOOOD LUCK!!! you can do it!! =)Cold turkey the best way, quit one day 1 -week-2 weeks etc.no but try something to do at the place of smoking. try something good that will keep you distracted for ex.: make exercice or something that will help you or your family. also you can punish your self to do things that you will not like for each time you buy some cigarettsI used the patch and joined a Yahoo support group Nicotine Busters. I drank lots of water, did a lot of slow deep breathing, and exercised. It was not easy, but haven-t had a cigarette in 5+ months.

Everybody has their own way of quitting. One works for one person may not work for another.
Check out Quit Assist,

for the various methods of quitting and the pros and cons of those methods and see which one may work for you.

Good luck!I quit the first time for 2 years then got into a very stressful situation - started again. I-ve quit again - now for 9 months. The first time, I used Wellbutrin. The second time, I quit cold turkey - just stubborned my way through the symptoms.

The main thing is that you have to really want to quit more than anything. Until then, you never will.

You also have to treat it like alcoholism. You can never have even one. If you do, you-ll start again.I have stopped smoking...haven-t smoked in just under 2 months. I quit after smoking for 12 yrs. I started taking Chantix. It is kind of expensive but well worth it. You-re supposed to take it for three months, but I think I could have quit taking it after the first month. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stop smoking.First you have to be determined to stop smoking, try the patch and try to avoid people that smoke at least for a few months . Its all about killing the habit.Cold turkey, but with a lot of preparation.

I picked a weekend. I filled the house with healthy snacks. Sent the kids away for the weekend. Got hubby to agree to quit together. Kept myself distracted through the withdrawl period (mostly by eating, lol). Started a very mild exercise program to help increase feelings of well being and lower stress levels.

And one mental trick:
I lit a cigarette and set it down. And watched it burn to the filter. If I can do that, I can quit. Sort of a test of my will power.

Also motivated by the fact that my grandmother and mother both died horrible deaths from emphysema. That was my future if I didn-t quit. Very powerful thing to face your future like that.Try the prescription drug Chantix. Lots of success with that particular medication.Hi... ;)

You should have a strong will power... that-s it:):):)

I keep my finger crossed for you :)

You know, my first boy-friend said always that if his girl-friend would smoke, he would feel like he would kiss an ashtray... hehehe :) so, I have never tried to smoke... hehehehe :)

Today, I am an -old- lady and ... I have never smoked... it is seriously :):):)

So, you should remember, that your girl-friend will say to you, that she would feel like she ... hehehehe :)

I think, that it is a good reason... :):):)

Regards :)In the Search for questions slot type in -how to quit smoking- and you will get at least 139 previous questions with answers. This could help...

Stopping smoking increasing fitness? -

Stopping smoking increasing fitness? -

i run 1.5miles in 10.30 best effort, and smoke 15 a day... if i quit, would i see an improvement? how long til my fitness levels increased?You-d see a vast improvement. Cold turkey probably a month or so later. Quitting gradually would yield gradual results. Your body takes a while to recover from bad habits.

Also if you told how long you where smoking that-d help. As it would take longer for you to peak in your fitness increase. But the results would still be amazing if not moresoWhen i was running and quit smoking i noticed improvements within a couple weeks...you would be surprised how much of a difference quitting smoking makes when you are trying to get physically fit, and doing cardiovascular activites....you will be able to run longer and faster.Quitting smoking was the hardest thing i-ve ever done, but it made feel like a super hero when i saw the differences it made.

I walk up and down stairs all day long now, where as before I would avoid it because it would leave me breathless.

It-s gonna be an awful, awful two weeks but i highly recommend it.

Plus, think of the money you-ll save.you would see a difference after a short time. your body will go through the detox phase of getting the nicotine out of your system, and along with that is sometimes more mucus and stuff, but running can help get rid of some of it. (it does for me anyways- but not during allergy season)YOu should quit regardless. And yes you will see an improvement in stamina, along with your abilities elsewhere.
