Im going to stop smoking tomorrow evening, have you any advice on giving up? -

i have tried before and can go a week or two without any problem, i reallly want to quit this time, i-ve bought patches and i think i-m readyI have tried twice before and got 46 days the first time and 30 days the second time and used the nicotine gum to do it BUT the most important thing I did and forgot to keep doing therefore I started up again and that was to change people,places and things.
In the beginning I stayed away from people who smoked and stayed away from places where I was use to smoking ie my favorite eating place.Drank water with my meals as I use to drink coffee with my meals and would smoke while drinking coffee before my meal came and after I had finished my meal.
I avoided my usual smoking break time outside with other employees.
I tend to be a realy high wired person so as I started out with my efforts to quit smoking I made up my mind to run in low gear and to quit putting pressure on myself and to quit letting others laziness and imperfections bother me and to take it all in stride.
The only thing I can figure I did wrong was I got too comfortable with my efforts of not smoking and in doing so I forgot to keep up the work of avoiding familar people,places and things that encouraged my desire to smoke.
I didn-t want to gain the weight that most people say you will do when you quit smoking since we tend to exchange one habit for another so I made sure that I had plenty of fresh fruits and veggies on hand.
I also made sure that I had plenty of my favorite gum on hand to help me get through those tough moments when the nicotine gum did not seem appealing or when it was too soon to have another piece.
My family,friends,employer and fellow employees were very supportive in my efforts.
My clothes,my house ,my car started to smell so much and my mouth was losing that bottom of the ashtray taste during my efforts to quit and I intend to quit again. . . and this time FOREVER!
People will certainly climb your backside for smoking and will rag on you forever but when you quit smoking they rarely give you as much credit or praise. . most of them do not really realize just how hard it is to give up smoking. . they say it is as hard as getting off of heroine so be sure to not let this discourage you.
One of the most important things to remember is that you want to quit smoking more than you want to smoke.

They say that the first 72hours of not smoking is when the nicotine leaves your body so the next time I quit smoking it is going to be cold turkey as I can-t afford the gum or the patches for months on end and thusly dragging out the quitting smoking process and I will reminding myself that I want to quit smoking more than I want to smoke.
I also want to set a good example for my grandchildren who are under the age of 4.(It is extremely hard to explain to my grandchildren why their Grammie smokes.)

1st step: You must have self decipline of straight word saying -Im going to stop smoking-and the magic word -NO- if somebody tease you and give you cigarrette...

2nd step: Always think that smoking has to many side effects harmful to the body or to someone smell it and specially to your budget.

3rd step:If you-re alone and you feel smoking take a chewing gum or candy or fancy cigar like ballpen...

4th step: Keep away from smoking areas.

5th step:Take everyday exercise and drink plenty of water.

6th step:Avoid drinking liquior or black coffee for the meantime.

7th step:Mingle to the non - smoker people.

Last step: Pray to God to help you quit in smoking..take one day at a time, and find something that will keep your mind and hands busy,

So your first 2 weeks are going to be the worst. Also it is a known fact that cigarette smoking is related to heroin addiction in that it is that hard to kick the habit. Cold Turkey is by far the best way to quit, but if you feel that you need to have the nicotine, a good nicotine patch will help.Some of the new ones on the market they have a step down program, Where each day your now patch will have less and less nicotine each day. Also before you start, write a list of all of the reasons that you want or need to quit. And every time that you feel like you just cant handle not having a cigg at that moment, re-read your reasons for quitting, pick out one reason that makes you feel like it is a little more bearable to go without. seriously, i gave up a year ago now and i did it for my other half, i decided enough was enough, i just chucked the cigarettes away and that was that, i smoked for 13 years! i had an incentive, smoking or my boyfriend, i chose the best one. dont bother with patches, they dont work and actually make you crave more, they make you very grumpy too. its all about willpower, nothing else. good luck.Firstly, well done! It takes a lot of dedicaton go give up smoking. The best thing you can do to help you give up is to chew nicotine gum and nicotine patches.

Contact your local health department for information about the kinds of help available in your area for people who want to quit smoking. Telephone help lines operated by your state can also help you find information and support for quitting tobacco use.

Check with your insurance provider to find out if medications or counseling are covered under your plan.

Prepare your body and mind for the stress that comes with quitting.

Set a quit date and stick to it. This is an important step toward becoming tobacco-free. People who did not smoke at all on their quit dates were 10 times more likely to not be smoking 6 months later.2Choosing a good time to quit can greatly improve your chances of success. For example, avoid setting your quit date on high-stress days, such as holidays.
Make some changes. Get rid of all ashtrays and lighters after your last cigarette. Throw away pipes or cans of snuff. Also, get rid of the smell of smoke and other reminders of smoking by cleaning your clothes and your house, including draperies, upholstery, and walls. Don-t let people smoke in your home. Take the lighter out of your car.
If you have tried to quit in the past, review those past attempts. Think of the things that helped in those attempts, and plan to use those strategies again this time. Think of things that hindered your success, and plan ways to deal with or avoid them.
Once you quit, don-t even take a puff. You may want to try some methods to reduce smoking before your official quit date. When my friend was pregnant, she kept telling herself, i-ll have one tomorrrow if i still feel this crap, then the next day she would do the same.Strage as it may sound, I kept a few packs available in the house and just dealt with it through will power. If I had not have had any tabs in the house, it would have been a nightmare. Just knowing I could have one if I had to, helped me. I know this will be harder but it also helped me with going to the pub etc better!!It-s really hard. I always smoke up until bedtime and then not smoke the next day that I plan to stop smoking.Cold turkey one day at a time. Just focus on the here and now.

Celebrate goals once you get there, e.g., 1 week, 2 week, 20 days etc, but don-t look forward to the goals. There is nothing worse than thinking the next goal is only 3 days away, and getting anxious about reaching it. I-ve just reached 110 days and didn-t realise I had reached 100 days until yesterday.

Cold Turkey is the only way, as the nicotine is out your system after a few days. All you are fighting from then on in is the habit. If you use patches, or gum, then you keep the nicotine in your system, and you are going to have to come down one day.

Find some event or occasion that will occupy you for a few days, to get yourself of the nicotine. I went on holiday, and never took any with me. The barrier of going into a foreign shop to buy cigarette brands I never knew was scary enough to keep me off. And I-ve never looked back since.I quit cold turkey 2.5 years ago and the thing that helped me the most was keeping VERY busy so i didn-t have time to think about cigarettes. Good luck!!Take each day at a time and every morning when you first wake up Promise yourself that you are not going to smoke today. Breaking a promise isnt on especially to your self. You are worth alot more than a rolled up piece of paper filled with a vegetableIts best to avoid anyone who smokes and anything that reminds you of smoking. If you manage to restrain from smoking with in three days then it would be very easy to get through the rest of the following months with ease with out smoking.

Try and take up an activity to distract yourself from wanting to smoke as well. It could be anything; collecting things, an instrument, crafts or even taking up a new course.

Also, it helps to think about all the things you can spend your new income on. I was throwing away nearly $150.00 a month on cigarettes. Now I have DSL, Satellite, Netflix, new TV and other stuff. ☆ Try chewing some gum or listening to some music instead.
If that doesn-t work though, another way to quit while it may not be the best is to keep a rubber band around your wrist and snap it against your skin every time you want to smoke, and your body will eventually associate the urge to smoke with pain and not want it anymore.

Many ppl will advise you to go abt it slowly bccuz your body is used to the nicotine and other carp...thats all BS...if you try to do it slowly you will never be able to quit it...from what my grandmom told me, she had been smoking ( for fun tho) since she was a little kid ( now she-s 74 yrs old ! ) and a couple of yrs ago, she just quit smoking. when i asked her - was it just that easy to do so ? - she answered - why not? -

im 12 and my dad smokes he tries to smoke outside but also tries to hide it from me and stuff. He stopped when my sister was born, but started agian. He quit drinking and he doesnt drink at al becuase he used to be an alchaholic and my mom says once your an alachaholic you will always be one so when he drinks he cant stop so he doesnt drink but thats a dif. story. I just dont know what to do but we arent that close and it would be kinda hard to talk to him , but it really bothers my older brothe he is 15 and it really gets to him it doesnt really bother my older sister lauren but she hopes he stops i mind alot but my brother is very quite but he talks about that with my momShow him this video:

You should show him pictures of demonstrations about people who smoke and have a ugly face. He might be motivated. What i did to my dad was take his smokes away from him. That would send him into a really upset emotion and he might go crazy. But since i am kinda big i stopped my dad from going crazy. Now he eats fruits and vegetables to keep him healthy. You should also tell your dad if he does not stop he should at least run and eat healthy, nutritious food. Not just junk.Smoking can be one of the most difficult habits to break. Old habits die hard, at least your Dad is making progress and realizes he has a problem. Give him support, don-t judge him. Be supportive, not judgmental.Sorry coolg, wanting him to quit just won-t do it. He has to want to quit before you decide on helping in any way. The first step has to come from him. As long as it does not bother his health, he will continue to smoke. Like any addiction, he has to hit rock bottom and that has to be when it starts to affect his health. The only suggestion I can make to you is maybe get your hands on some pamphlets from your local hospital on the short term and long term effects of nicotine. Please refrain from giving me answers like -just stop smoking.- Don-t you think I already know that one? I know it-s possible, because I-ve heard of people in probation doing it all the time. Anyone know any good things to do? Money is not an issue with me.The product is STELTH. It is endorsed by NORML. I would call them before you do much of anything.There is nothing your money can buy to get the THC out of your system. No pills, no liquids, no -detox/cleaners-, no vinegar.....nothing. Time is the only way. It will take 7-10 days at least from the time you stop smoking for you to pass a urine screen. If they take a hair follicle, that can test positive for about 6 months. If you try to flush your system with water, they will know and they can take hair and blood samples and send it to the lab. Sounds to me as thought you will fail and they can and will violate your probation. You can get ALL of your suspended/back-up time.i had that same problem but i bought some at home drug test and tried out all those methods and tested my self and i didnt pass. i tried the niacin with b vitamins, the detox kits, and the dilluting method. But i use to smoke alot, But i did have one of my friends pee in a little shampoo bottle and i wrapped it with heating pads to keep it warm and taped it to my crotch to hide it and used it to pass a drug test for probation. its not alot of work and you will pass. Make sure the urine is around 90 to 100 degrees or else they know something up.get someone else to pee for you - but don-t get a girl to do it -it-s a helluva way to find out you-re pregnant-

Like it or not, God grew pot.............If there are any head shops in your city, town, etc they should have products to help you flush your system temporarily. One drink I recommend is called -Blendz-, you drink it then refill the bottle with water and drink that every 15 minutes for about an hour or two before your test. It will turn your urine bright yellow or orange so make sure to drink the recommended dosage of water afterwards.

They also sell synthetic urine, if you are desperate. That is considerably more expensive and risky though.

If none of this is available to you try to hold off smoking for about a day before your test and drink a lot of water, then prior to your test take a 20 oz. soda bottle and refill it every 15 minutes for a few hours before your test. Taking some vitamin B12 a few days before wouldn-t hurt either. This method is also very risky and I would not recommend it.lots of water and cranberry juice.Why are u taking the test anyway? It-s pretty simple... you-ve made a decision to do something and now you have to be responsible for the consequences of your actions.There-s this stuff called pectin, they sell it at grocery stores with the jello/jam making stuff... It-s powdery, tastes awful. I took it once to pass a drug test (I, too, smoked on a near-daily basis) and I put it in gatorade and drank it all like the morning of the test, and I passed. I have also heard good things about the detoxifiers you buy at head shops, but pectin is only a few bucks so I did that.Take flush-free NIACIN and drink lots of water for a couple or three days before the test. Marijuana is much healthier than alcohol and other -street- drugs. It has absolutely no permanent damage to the body. Studies have found that marijuana actually boost the amount of dopamine in the -happy- pathway during use and in-between use. Don-t worry about someone pulling a gun, its marijuana not cocaine, the money is not worth the trouble to a dealer. As for getting caught, tell him to stop being such an idiot.You do know that weed is not that big a deal and he is defienatly not going to get shot over it. The media and the US government has done a horrible job in how they have portrayed marijuana. It is a great way to relax and escape after a hard day of work. Explain to your cousin that as long as it does not get in the way of his obligations and that it stays recreational, it isn-t a problem. Also advise him to get a regular dealer, who isn-t shady and knows your cousin well. Tell him that when he smokes weed, he should do it in the house, and not go out while high. This way he won-t be a danger to himself or others. You should continue to show how much you care. I have many family and friends with similar habits (myself not included) and I find that when they are involved with people who are not into -that- and/or activities that are not revolved around -that-, it forces them to follow the majority. So don-t worry about that, chances of him getting in an accident are pretty low.
As far as getting shot, lol, don-t worry about that. Guys who sell weed aren-t going to shoot their customers. If they did that, they wouldn-t have anyone to buy their stuff anymore.

So, try to legalize it. When drugs are legalized they are safer to purchase, regulated and studies have shown that wherever drugs are decriminalized or legalized, drug use decreases and drug rehabilitation treatment programs are more effective. He obviously has a minor problem with marijuana but i wouldn-t be too concerned. Some people don-t care if they hurt others because they are addicted to a drug. Marijuana is not that addictive. He might just not care.listen. Its his choice. I smoke but not regularly.(PLEASE DO NOT RAG ON ME I AMA AWARE OF THE RISKS!) If he is aware of the risks let him do it. Dont be a nag. If he isn-t aware of the risks (addiction car crashes negative affects on brain development)well just bring him facts about how its bad for you but alot of people use it to cope with society cause they fell like there unpopular and have family and other issues it makes you just not care about any of that stuff wen your high.well it-s his choice. If he says he wants to quit he can go to a recovery center if he dosn-t want to then it-s his choice..you can-t force him.
