Boyfriend smokes :( how do i make him stop? -
Boyfriend smokes :( how do i make him stop? -
I try to get my boyfriend to stop smoking but he says its to hard.
We went on holiday and he didnt have ony because we were with my parents, he says he-s stopped but he-d had 2 since we got home and im worried he-s doing it behind my back because all his family smokes. i dont want to say anything just in case he think im nagging? If you hate smoking. Don-t date smokers. That-s just common sense. You really cant make a person stop smoking if they don-t want to. Only they can do it by themselves.
Don-t give your guy a hard time and make him sneak off to smoke. That only makes it bad for both of you. If he smokes, let him smoke openly and don-t nag him about it. If he has a family background of smoking (as I did) it would take a quantum shift to make him even understand that smoking may not be acceptable to others.
I stopped a few years ago after a long lifetime habit that started when I was a very young boy. Why did I stop? Certainly not because I saw the -writing on the wall- about the dangers of smoking. It was just because I wanted to.
Give him his space and work very gently with him on this issue and he may come to understand your perspective.Unfortunately, you probably can-t. If he wants to smoke he will, and if you complain about it he-ll either stop but resent you for it, not stop and resent you anyway, or say he stoped but do it in secret. Men dont like to be told what to do.
Thats just in my experience though, maybe he-s a really nice guy and he-ll understand you-re thinking about his health. So try explaining how you feel to him, just once, but very clearly. then after that don-t go on about it.
OH OH, I know! challenge him to a race and when he finishes 50 ft behind you, panting like a dog, he-ll feel like a loser and want to be fitter.Well, yeah, that-s the thing -- you can-t *make* him stop, it-s so addictive I-ve seen people smoke themselves to death. So let him know that you-re concerned, but don-t count on his doing it, if he does, great, but if you push him too hard he-s just going to lie and do it behind your back because he *can-t* stop.Try explaining to him that you are worried about his health and that continuing to smoke will result in him having all sorts of future health problems which are going to effect you just as much as him. The problem with smokers as a lot of them see it as -their problem- but in reality they-re causing major stress and problems to the people that love them too. A look at some pictures of lungs with emphysema might help too.I guess try to get him to stop by saying convincing stuff. I mean my grandfather died from lung cancer cos of smoking. My friends grandfather did too. There-s alot of health problem. If my bf smoke I would tell him I want to spend a long and as healthy as possible life with him cos i wouldn-t know what happens or if there is anything after death. If it-s my wish for him to stop I think out of love he will.
Try to just sit down and have a talk. If it-s something you don-t like he should just put in a effort for u.
good luck!!Unless you-re the great and powerful Oz, you can-t make anyone do anything unless they want to.
You should have thought of this before dating someone who smokes. Not to bright on your part.
Yes, it is nagging.it,s going to be up to him if he wants to stop or not. there,s nothing you can do or say to make him stop. he has to make that decision his own.I stopped smoking 2 months into my pregnancy and it is the best thing I ever did for myself and my new family!
