I have recently been medically retired and am having a gard time trying to flash a smile. I want to feel better about myself.
I have started drinking a LOT and smoking twice as much as I used to. I feel the smoking is a precurser to drinking (winds me up) then need drink to relax. I have smoked for twenty four yrs and have only given up once using Allan Carr-s 1st edition paperback (apparently the other publications are not as good) I cannot find one, don-t even remember what it looks like, If anyone knows can you send me the link......? AND any advice you may have to help me out?
Thankscold Turkey is best...once you get past the first week you-ll be just fine...Nicocure Stop Smoking Patch Works. Our all natural nicotine patch will help you quit smoking in 15 days or less! http://Quit-Smoking.ze.cxI would say to go to ebay or amazon.com to look for the book again. You might be able to find it there. Talk to your doctor about Chantix. I have heard a lot of great things about it. My husband has started taking it and when he actually takes it - it works! But you have to keep up with it. I cannot give you any advice on how I quit b/c I quit the day I went into the hospital to give birth to my son. I was very adament on wanting to breastfeed, so I quit smoking. It has been almost 3 months and it is still the hardest thing I am currently doing. If you live in the UK, go to your GP and they will offer you comprehensive support to give up smoking.
It sounds like you don-t want to waste your freedom.
you could try 12 step for the drinking and you may find applying the principles to smoking also help.
Nicotine Patches can help with the cravings.
If you are a hardened addict a change of scenery or lifestyle can jolt a person into quitting if they really want to of course!)
Good luck finding a way to get healthy. I know it is hard.I have been using this alternative therapy call Emotional Freedom Technique which has helped me a lot. It-s very good at getting rid of all kinds of negative emotions and dealing with all kinds of issues quickly. It does sound crazy but does work. It might be something that can help you with your smoking. If you type smoking in to the search engine of emofree.com you should find some articles about EFT helping people who smoke.Firstly, Good Luck with stopping smoking, secondly, I stopped smokling in April of this year after about 17 years of smoking. I was smoking about 45 a day. I got patches off the doctor and joined a quit helpline but after just 2 weeks I felt strong enought to go it alone and stop using the patches too. I am now a non-smoker. I found it helped to avoid -smoking- stiuations as much as possible and also to avoid alcohol for a few weeks as I smoked more when I had a drink.
I wish you all the luck in the world.smoking is dangerous one it doe snot affected who they are smoking but it also affects whole people, why you people try to change your smoking habit, i think the best way to give up your smoking do some meditation it will help you in many ways try it you can change as soon as possible ......There is TONS of information on the internet. How to stop my mum smoking? The doctor has already said she will die if she doesnt stop now =(? -
I-m 16 and I live in Manchester. My mum has been smoking for about 20years, and been having about 30 a day =( In January she suffered a heart attack and was rushed to hospital. They sorted her out but the doctor sat us down and said this was the last chance, he said if you do not stop smoking you will die. This really hit us hard. So for a month or so after she gave up and i was really proud of her, until one day the bathroom stank of cigs. So i went into her room and there was a 20 pack in her draw. I went mental but now she just smokes openly again. I ask her to stop but she hust ignores, i asked her does she not want to see me and my little sister who is 6 grow up, get married have kids etc. She simply said she doesn-t care =( I really don-t know what to do we used to be very close and now we cant stand each other. I know its hard to stop but surely its worth it for you family? Please help what can i do? ThankyouI-m really sorry to hear about your situation. It-s very difficult, if not impossible, to get someone to change if they don-t decide to do it themselves. That being said though, there is hope that you can help your mum see that her family is important enough for her to give quitting another try.
She likely feels quite helpless against the power of her addiction which could be leading to depression (and it sounds as though she is seriously depressed).
Are there any counseling services in your community that might help? Also, has she tried things like hyponosis.
There are a few resources on this page that might help:

I urge you to not give up on your mum and to try to see past the depression to the person inside. It-s really tough, but you and your sister need to get her back.
Reach out to the community. There are resources that can help. Maybe the church? Public clinic? Friends or other family? Try not to carry the entire burden by yourself.
Wish I could be more help. Good luck.If she doesn-t want to stop smoking, even after a heart attack, sadly there-s very little you can do. GPs in England are paid to get smokers to stop, so if you can get her as far as to the GP, then that would be a start. You could use her visits for repeat prescriptions as an opportunity to discuss with the practice nurse. Failing that, steal her cigarettes and bin them. They cost so much she-d have to pay attention. It seems to me that not being able to fulfill her addiction has made her depressed. On a person who wasn-t depressed, a doctor telling them they would die soon (and never see their children grow up) should be enough to force themselves to stop, or try harder.
She might need to see a councelor to set her priorities straight and get on the road to a smoke free life.
i really hope the best for you, your mom, and the rest of your family.tell her that u will start smoking cracks/dopes in front of her unless she stops it.. and you mean it..Smoking is an addiction - It can be very hard to break. If she-s smoking 30 a day, for 20 years, it-s amazing that she lasted as long as she did. The best thing to do would be to talk to your family doctor about different groups ond other options to help make quitting as easy as possible for your mom. If she-s said that she doesn-t care... I hate to say it, but there may be no saving her. She may have just given up already. Best of luck to you and your mom.
^And to the person above me... fighting an addiction by saying you-ll do something addicting too doesn-t make any sense. How to stop my mum smoking? The doctor has already said she will die if she doesnt stop now =(? -
