don-t know what to do instead of smokePeople, especially smokers, don-t realize that when they quit smoking the sensation or habit of putting something in the mouth does not go away. This is why our brain quickly tells us to look for a substitute - in this case, food.
This similar phenomenon happened before you started smoking in the first place. Do you recall when your parents stopped you from bottle feeding before you were ready to give it up? I bet you don-t but researchers say that children who were made to give up their milk bottle for more solid foods early resort to other things to make up for that loss, and these children grow up to be smokers. Those who were allowed to enjoy their bottle feeding as long as they could had less chances of acquiring the habit of smoking when they grow up.
Same thing here.when u smoke, u tend to lose weight because smoking slows everything down and when u stop, u start to feel the urge to eat more since u were losing weight when smoking;.I think it-s to fill a void of not having something in your hand to puff. Sort of like a pacifier...as we all know..food is the -Great- pacifier but it certainly isn-t kind to our waistlines. Anyway, I am a nonsmoker but several of my friends who quit or tried to quit state it-s to fill the void of always craving the nicotine.I thought so, because smokers taste buds are damaged, they don-t taste food as well as others, so they don-t eat as much - vice versa when they stop smoking.because eating gives you somthing to do in place of smoking.i guess its sort of like a rebound.I think, it partially compensates for the urge to smoke, when you stop smoking. You eat more cause your boredthe hand to mouth thing and then also you are trying to keep your mind off of smoking and you should try going for walks or get your mind off of eating and eat 3 meals a day ... do something that involves getting out of the house and up and doing something.Could another way the person relieves stress... but i REALLY doubt thatoral fixationYour body is trying to fill that void or craving with something...just make sure you eat healthy and get some exercise....the patch worked for my boyfriends cravings..Nicotine is a known appetite suppressant. Also when you quit smoking you have idle time and want to fill it. Food is a usual substitute for cigarettes. I gained a lot when I quit also because I realized I could smell and taste food better so I was more apt to eat many things I had not had in years. Of course I started smoking again to lose the weight!!!! LOL.It is b/c you are using the same motion as you would smoking! The hand to the mouth movement..Nicotine is an appetite suppressant, so you aren-t as hungry when you-re a smoker. Then there-s the replacement - you start chewing on things because you can-t smoke.
It takes hard work to not eat more when you quit smoking. Its an oral fixation and when you smoke it is a suppressant like coffee and you hunger get pushed to the side when you stop smoking you no longer have that side effect of the suppressant and nothing in your mouth.so people do this is very common, I suggest a diet of some sorts, the nerves is what causes it, plus the need to put something to your lips, to replace a cig.you busy yourself eating instead of smoking. uses your hands and mouth.veggies..like carrot sticks...you will keep your hands and mouth busy but not consume a lot of calories...also try licorice!Because you-re used to the movement of your hand going to and from your mouth, it-s boredom basically, you need sommit for your hands to do.I quit smoking 5 years ago and put on about 5 pounds at first. Then, when I started getting more active (because I wasn-t always tired) I lost 10 pounds.yes
