Anyone got a way to stop smoking? -

I have tried so many different ways to stop smoking none have worked so if there is anyone out there with som good ideas im open for it..There are drugs out there that aid in quitting smoking, but I didn-t take that route. Removing yourself from smoking situations for an extended amount of time helped me. These were social situations i.e. drinking with friends, playing poker, etc. If your most susceptible time for smoking is bedtime, for example, try doing something else in it-s place. Meditation, tea, and reverting back to a child-s perception of smoking is what helps me. A child sees it as an abomination, and something they could never do. Try implanting ideas, even brainwashing yourself. The mind can do amazing things, and becoming addicted to the physical and mental effects of cigarettes is one of those things. In my opinion, you can force yourself to achieve an amazing -positive- addiction equal and greater than that of nicotine and smoking. Remember, it-s ALL about attitude. Cigarettes are a sign of weakness. Can you attack your own psyche? Yep.

Focus on the negative during each inhalation of smoke.

Focus on the positive during each clean breath.

Become addicted to thinking about it while you still smoke.
Just a couple ideas... I still have trouble FWIW, and this is mostly me giving myself the talk.If you find the physical craving and habit is too great, use a celery stick or toothpick to chew on

- Avoid alcohol, as it will increase the desire to smoke

- Eat smaller meals more frequently to keep your blood sugar levels up. This will greatly decrease the craving

- Continually remind yourself that cravings will grow in intensity, but usually decrease almost as quickly as they came if you distract yourself

- Have a visual reminder of why you want to quit smoking handy. A picture of what smoking does to your lungs and body may be just what you need

- Take a shower or bath when you feel you can no longer resist. By the time you are done, the craving will have subsided

- Buy aromatic candles to light and reduce your stress/anxiety

- Have a friend or family member on notice. Choose a few people to serve as your support that you can lean on when you feel as if you-re going to give in. Call them as needed

- Throw away all smoking accessories no matter how insignificant. Seeing something that reminds you of smoking on a daily basis will only make the process more difficult

use acupuncture to stop smoking
Surround yourself with nonsmokers.
Have a friend or family member ready to call when you need support.

u gottA WANT TO GIVE UP REALLY GIVE UP - its hard i know - but u WILL feel better and ur sense of smell will really improve it took me about 3 weeks fore i coyuld smell a smoker and oh boy yukkkkyyyy - its enuff to keep me off them


also instead of saying that i gave up smokes - i say that i dont smoke anymore then i dont feel like im missing out on something its(smoking)jujjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjust like anything else that u dont do any more -You can try all the stop smoking aids out there, but the key ingredient to quitting is will power. If you are truly ready to quit, you won-t have any problem dealing with the withdrawal effects. Just take it one day at a time. Stay positive, and you-ll be fine.

ive been smoking for years, but i dont know how to quit. do i just leave my cigarettes at home? or do i lay them on the kitchen table and stare at them until i have no more interest of smoking?do i just put them in a different pocket to make myself think that i forgot my cigarettes because they arent in my regular pocket? ive tried a lot of ways to stop smoking but i still smoke today. please give me an honost opinion.The thing with smoking is that it is more of a mental addiction than physical. You are physically addicted to the nicotine for only 3 days. So after that it-s all in your head.

Try gum ,mints, or a piece of candy, or a coffee break. Try to replace your cigarette breaks with another habit such as the gum, etc. So once you are past the smoking, you can just stop eating as much candy or gum. A much eaiser habit to stop. Just don-t switch to drinking or another habit which will need breaking. Besides gum and mints will keep your breathe fresh and minty. :)

the one thing that worked for me was getting active in a support group.. i am a memeber of Nicotine Anonymous, and attend meetings both locally and on line... on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend before actually attempting a quit..

try chewing a lot of gum not the nicotine gum but like dentine ice i know a few people that have overcome there addiction using this strategy. The thing about nicotine gum is that your still dependent on the nicotine.

tell me your experience and battle to quit smoking and have you really stoppedI got the cold from hell along with bronchitis so I was forced not to smoke for a week and decided to run with it. As soon as you get over the feeling of -it-s not the end of the world if I don-t have one,- you-ll do fine. I still recommend weaning yourself off though. My dad quit cold turkey and ended up being prescribed anabolic steroids because his lungs degenerated for some reason. I did that for about a month and a half where I smoked twice a shift at a part-time job (about three shifts a week), had another full one a month and a half later, and a drag another month and a half later. That was just two months ago. I tried going for a drag this past Saturday and ended up coughing up a lung. The cravings never go away, but it-s a lot easier to control. Also, go to the gym as much as you can. It-ll help with the depression. Good luck!Use the nicotene gum for a while.

The gum is very addictive thoughA buddy and I smoked a pack one morning when we were 11 because we thought it would be cool. I got so royally sick that I was never again tempted.

It didn-t help that my mom couldn-t stop laughing when she found out why I was so sick.I ate a cigarette and it made me so violently ill I never ever wanted to smoke again. Sure, not for everyone, but it worked well for me.

not a heavy smoker at all ! 4 cigarettes a week but still how can i stop thinking of it?I just quit smoking this week, Monday actually. It-s easy. It-s all in your head. I know it-s hard to not think about it, but when you start to get the urge just keep yourself busy with other things. The hardest thing for me is in my car. I usually would smoke while driving. Now I just try and focus on the music or talk on the phone. Hope that helps! You have to want to quit, if you don-t want to completely then you won-t quit. Good luck!if you only smoke 4 cigarettes a week, quitting would be much easier than someone like me that was up to a pack a day. I started putting an hour and a half between each cigarette to get it down to half a pack. Just stop smoking. four cigarettes a week is hardly an addiction and not even that bad for you until you start smoking more often. take up some hobbies involving your hands if you really need to get your mind off of it but plenty of hard core smokers can quit cold turkey but it-s a challenge for them, it should be no problem for you.i gave up on january the 1st after 8 years and 20 aday, first i tried the gum...(tasted disgusting) Then i tried the patches and even though in your mind you think you need a cigarette you have no craving for one as the patch keeps this under control.

Really hope this helps....Also even know when i feel to start again, the advert where the children say -im scared my mum will die- keeps me strong.Man just decide wether you like to smell like cigarette smoke, that did it for me. I cant stand that smell. Plus it drains your energy as well. I could actually feel my unhealthyness. I mean, just look what it did to my face. what kind of dumb question is that? if you are only smoking 4 a week then you-re not even addicted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Get someone to slap you across the face each time you light up.Well when you are down to 0 a week then your doing well =)eat fireballs, the candy, it worked for me!
