How can i make my father stop smoking? -

How can i make my father stop smoking? -

There is no way to make him stop smoking if he doesn-t want to, but you could always just sit down with him and talk to him about how you feel about his smoking. Every smoker knows the health risk so try to make it more of a personal issue than about his health. If this doesn-t work you can always resort to hiding and stealing his cigarettes!when he is ready he will do it for himself. but he can always use the encouragement from the people around him. sit him down and tell him how important he is to those that loves him vice versa. another thing let him watch videos and give him some written resources about the effect of smoking. you can also take him to a facility with people suffering from smoking side effects and maybe he will think twice before he lights up again.

i used to be a smoker not a lot but enough to cause damages in the long run. i started my nursing school and the only thing that made me stop cold turkey is when i was caring for a patient suffering from copd, pneumonia, and heart problem related to smoking. i told myself i-m done.;the more you pester him..the worse you will make itYou can-t. I spent many years trying but unless someone is in the right frame of mind, there-s no way they can quit. Once they make the decision, you can support them in any and every way possible. I used to hide my dad-s cigarettes and throw them away, but he-d just get more. I tried guilting him. Nothing worked. BUT he eventually came around...after I moved out and got married and he hasn-t smoked since March. :-)That-s a tough one. He won-t quit just because you-re telling him. My husband didn-t quit until he was diagnosed with emphysema. That scared him enough so that he quit about a month after that diagnosis. Even though he quit smoking he got very sick about 7 years later.
If you could tell your father, in a sensible, caring way, that emphysema is a very, very uncomfortable way to end a life. And it-s not a quick way to die.
I hope this doesn-t upset you. You already know how unhealthy smoking is. I just mean to convey to your father the severity of what he may face in the future.
I truly wish you and your Dad well.Tell him about the harm of smoking and give him suggestions on how to quit smoking.

Welbutrin as a Stop Smoking Aid? -

Welbutrin as a Stop Smoking Aid? -

My cousin and friend both are considering using this for help in not smoking. Has anyone else tried this? Did it work? Did it work well? They are both at the their wits end, and the web sites I am finding are not helpful at all!I am actually in the process of taking this medication right now. Within a week of starting this, I had absolutely no desire to smoke. Every time I light up a cigarette, I put it out almost immediately because it tasted disgusting.
I highly recommend this as a stop smoking aid.Look up Zyban on the web and I am sure you will find more info and testimonials. When they use it for help with quitting smoking the drug is called Zyban not Wellbutrin even though they are the same drug.
You might also type Zyban into the search for questions box right here at yahoo answers and I-ll bet lots of stuff will come up.yes it is a anti smoking aid but you have to WANT to quit before using it. and you have to use it consistantly. It is the generic of zyban. and a hellofa lot cheaperWellbutrin is the exact same thing as Zyban (which is a stop-smoking aid). The only difference is that Wellbutrin is covered by insurance if prescribed for depression. Zyban is not covered by most insurances because there are Over the counter stop smoking aids that you can buy. So yes, wellbutrin does work as a stop-smoking aid.

Wellbutrin isn-t the generic of zyban- its just marketed and prescribed for different things. But it works exactly the same.

EDIT: I quit my caffeine addiction while taking wellbutrin- and I had no side effects. I don-t take wellbutrin anymore and I still don-t have cravings for caffeine. So I can vouch for it helping to stop an addiction. It does work.In clinical trials, it has been moderately helpful. For aiding in smoking cessation, it is marketed under the name -Zyban-. It works by weakening cravings for tobacco. The most successful use of it strongly points to using it in conjunction with a nicotne patch. It can work. Basically it helps cut down the cravings for nicotine, but it is not magic and requires a motivated patient. In other words, you have to want to quit. It was discovered that some pateints on welbutrin lost the urge to smoke and they researched it further.

There also is another drug on the market call Chantix, which is available by prescription if you are interested.

I knew a kid who killed himself by overdosing on this stuff.I tried it but i-m still smoking. I-ve smoked for about 30 yrs. I can say that it did help calm the nerves but it was also expensive. Over a $100 for a months supply because insurance wouldn-t cover it unless it is actually prescribed for depression instead of a stop smoking aid. I do know of 2 people who quit using it and the patch at the same time. It worked for them and they quit about 5 years ago.
