How can help my husband to get rid of smoking? -

my husband smokes at least 2 packs of cigaretts
every day ,all his attempts to stop smoking has failed ,are there any valid medications that may help him? I WANT SOMETHING THAT YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW HAS TRIED IT.thanksYour husband has to commit himself!! Whether successfully quit it cold turkey or on meds, it will come down to his own commitment! Good luck!My wife and I went to a Smoking Class at the hospital. You meet others, have a test every week, you went to make sure your carbon levels werte staying down, you could not cheat that way, talked the problems over in your class with others, and were offered a medication that might suit you best, it lasts about 6-7 weeks, after which you are given enough medication to last about six months. It all boils down to one thing and thats will-power and the help of your partner. Its helped me for i no longer smoke but my wife has now gone back to 10 ciggies a day. No matter what you think dear its up to you now to make the next step and then up to both of you to come to an agreement never to start again, thats will power and your own determination. The class really does help as it makes you feel an idiot if you try to cheat, and talking over the smoking problems with your class is far better than going to your GP and seeing the nurse there to help you stop.It gives you a sense of satisfaction that helps you continue. As for medication it was called Champix I think. Good Luck, it worked for me. By the way, let him know that all the coughing at a later age that he will get, about 50- 60 yrs old, will be so bad that not any cough medication or laxative will stop it, at 3am in the morning he will keep getting up coughing for 20 minutes or so, thats murder on your chest, then a sharp tightness will come on his chest so bad he will end up in the hospital thinking he-s got a bad heart or lung. It stops after you stop the smoking, in about 7-10 days, no kidding, i have gone through this and its plain murder, don-t let him do it, get your authority on him, before its too late.

One thing more, I thought about this last night, you have to have a good reason to give up if its to help, your husband should try to think about you and him in the future health wise or something near to that, it was that which stopped me.My question for you, is it your idea that he should stop smoking???? Or did he decide that he wants to stop smoking????
there is a medicine out on the market that would help him stop smoking, but honestly I-d say its mind over matter, you have to decide that your done smoking, cause nothing will make him stop smoking, its a matter of wanting to and sticking with it..
I think the medication is Chanex(Sp)
I think I have some cause my lung specialist gave it to me in hopes I-d stop smoking.. I-ve tried wellburtin which just made me feel on cloud nine, and then there nic patches which is very expensive to buy...
or gum..
GOOD LUCKNicotene addiction is one of the most difficult ones to overcome (I think it-s because it-s one the most socially accepted forms of addiction). The only way most people can quit such a powerfull addiction is with medication. I know several people who have talked to their physician started some meds (don-t know what they are) and have quit. After that, he will need to do some life style changes (it-s an addiction after all, there is no cure for it, just relief). Read up on books about addictions and how the various addictions shape and influence our brains.I looked at the whyquit.com website two years ago. At first I thought it would be a preechy American website that would be laughable and wouldn-t influence me in stopping. But reading the true stories made me stop.I went -cold turkey-, went to my local council leisure centre, got fit (and saved lots of money) and never looked back. Now I can run after my kids, look pretty damn fine and I don-t stink like an ashtray.
So try the whyquit website for starters. To give up it takes willpower, changing habits and above all the determination for your husband to actually WANT to quit smoking.
If nothing else works, you might be able to persuade your local hospital to allow your husband to walk around the cancer unit and see first hand what smoking does to people...Help groups and pills that block the craving altogether can help. He needs to speak to the doctor but it really must be his choice.

I-ve booked an appointment with my Doctor on friday to get some help. I-ve been smoking for 9 years (i-m 20) and I-ve had enough!!
