Ways to encourage my mom to STOP smoking cigarettes!? -
I need ways/tips to encourage my mom to stop/quit smoking cigarettes. I have tried telling her it is slowly killing her, but she just won-t listen. PLEASE help!I don-t want to lose my mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Tell her everyday that you love her and you hope that she will consider stopping smoking so you will have her as a Mom longer. Also, she should quit smoking so that the second hand smoke doesn-t affect you and others.
She should try to cut down even one cigarette per week at one time. Less and less. Then go to -casual- smoking (one here and there per month) then NONE! She can do it. She just has to want to. Motivation, find her some.
Good luck to you and your Mom.
p.s. don-t YOU start smoking either! ever! You wont lose her. People smoke for years, and live a long happy life. It-s the ones who try to live healthy lives, and have strokes from driving themselves crazy, because they miss out on so much trying to stay healthy. They get miserable doing so.
My grandparents are 87 and 83 and have smoked for over 60 years, and still smoke.
My father is 64 and has been smoking for 50 years. Am I paranoid about losing them? Of course not. They are doing something they enjoy, and living a long happy life in the process.I empathize, I lost my own mother that way, but I think you have your answer -- she-ll stop if and when she wants. But you might want to suggest that she try Chantix, if it-s fear of withdrawal that-s keeping her hooked -- it works much better than earlier stop smoking meds.Just do what I start to do with my mom
1.Throw her cigarettes packages to the trash where she can-t get them
2.Talk with her
3.Try to go to the store with her and don-t let her buy cigarettes
Of course she might go nuts for a while but then whe she gets it she will feel proud of youSince you-ve been inhaling the smoke for many years in your house, you-ve been smoking too. Just tell her if she doesn-t quit, then tell her I-m starting - then pick up one of her cigs and light it. See what her reaction is. It-s called reverse psychology. If you find out, tell me.
My dad had a stroke (because of smoking) and is now confined to a wheelchair with lost use of his left hand. The minute he came home from a three month hospital stay he started smoking again. Nothing-s worked thus far.Speaking as a X-smoker, DON-T NAG her. that-s the worse thing someone can do. You won-t ever get her to quit if you keep at her, nagging her about it. She has to want to quit and won-t quit until she-s ready.Make a powerpoint about the effects of smoking. Show smoker-s lungs and pictures of people who-s lives have been damaged by smoking.bring her in the middle of no-where for a year that no one cell cigarettes or steal her money and cigarettes.since she dont listen to you.Tell her about the dangers of smoking. Maybe get her on a quitting program.
