what are the most effective ways to stop smoking?there are many methods...the patch...the gum...cold turkey...support groups...medications like welbutrin or chantix...i think it just depends on the person as to which is more effective.I gave up successfully 16 years ago - i had the motivation but i used acupuncture to help manage the side effects. Haven-t had a single smoke since.I quit cold turkey. 12 years ago. I wrote a phrase every morning and put it in my top pocket where I carried cigarettes and every time I reached for a cigarette I pulled out the card with the Phrase on it. I will give you one for the first day and then you can make them up. If I don-t smoke today I will have more tomorrows. After about 3 months I was home free. And I did not gain weight either.try doing other stuff like exercising. healthy activities etc. if you want to smoke, try biting a gum. and hang out with non smokers so you wont be tempted to smoke. eat healthily. distract yourself from smoking by doing other activites. like making new friends. try mediating exercises too.I think it-s different for everyone. I was finally able to quit and I had my kids as my primary motivation. Every time I think of smoking I think about how it affects them. To get over the initial part- use gum, hard candies, stop smoking patch/gum/prescription- anything you think might help.The more you plan in advance and are ready the more successful you will likely be.For me it was cold turkey. My boyfriend of the time cried because his family members were dying of lung cancer and told me to quit smoking or he will leave me because he doesn-t want to deal with the hurt again. So I was annoyed but I did it and 3 years later I have an 18 month old daughter and will never take it up again.you need a hobby that you love to do. i quit by snorkeling as much as i could. something simple like that. something that won-t get you frustrated.
