Trying to quit smoking (9 days now). Just coughed up some really gross stuff. Is it possible that is was tar?yes its definitely possible. good job on quitting!! :)Quitting smoking can be a little like losing a friend: you will grieve, and you need to try to occupy your mind, your hands and your time. Take up a hobby that involves using your hands, such as woodworking or quilting, or make a list of things that need fixing around the house and do them one by one.
Drinking a small glass of water every time you have a craving is a great way to avoid overeating. Or simply notice how quickly a craving disappears. You may be surprised. Even if you do nothing to satisfy it, the strongest craving will vanish within 90 seconds. Sure it comes back, but 90 seconds is not long to hold out each time.Stop smoking; cough up tar? -

Every one I locate seem to want a small fortune to help a personPhillip Morris has -help-, but I don-t think they provide an actual patch or anything. I quit smoking by using the patch. The hardest part isn-t the nicotine, it-s the habit of smoking at certain times, like after a meal or while driving. Good Luck!

Rayman-s right: Smoking is partly a habit as well as an addiction.
The only genuinely free way I know to stop smoking is cold turkey. And some people find that to be very hard.
You may want to keep a pack of chewing gum with you so you-ll have something to put in your mouth besides a cigarette. You-ll also want to change a few habits so the triggers to smoke are missing. It will help, too, if you get some exercise and start cleaning so the smell of the nicotine gets removed.
Get your friends and family to help cheer you on too.
