How do i stop smoking? tried patches and medication, gum etc. what about hypmotism? any ideas? -

i desperatly want to stop smoking and cannot or maybe will not! i would like to try to be hypmotized or something any ideas? Many years ago when I desperately wanted to quit smoking myself, a friend gave me the following suggestion, because that was the way she quit herself, too. I did it and it worked. I will now tell you how.

There is only ONE sure-fire way to quit smoking and that is to become absolutely DISGUSTED by the mere idea of having another cigarette. When you can feel thoroughly repulsed by the thought of lighting-up, you-re ready to replace the smoking habit with something better for you.

So how does one DO that, you ask? -how do I get THAT grossed out by my cigarette habit?- It-s actually quite easy. Don-t cut down on cigarettes at all, in fact, you have to increase your -dosage- all of a sudden, all in one sitting.

Do this in an enclosed room so there is hardly not much air circulation, have as many cigarettes on hand that you normally would smoke over the course of a whole day, and begin smoking them one after another. You cannot allow yourself to take a break from them, you must smoke them ALL - one after the other. The smoke should be allowed to infiltrate EVERYthing - your hair, your clothes, your bedsheets. Don-t take a shower before you go to bed, don-t change the sheets either - allow yourself to smell exactly what all non-smokers smell when smokers are puffing away on the vile stuff around them. You must give yourself the full impact of the disgusting odor - it is especially important that you can smell the stink of cigarettes in your bed pillow and your hair as you are falling asleep later.

That really ought to do it. Everytime you think about having a cigarette after this experience, you should feel a strong repulsive YUCK! come over you. This may seem rather extreme - and it is - but if you want to quit ...If you truly want to quit smoking, cold turkey is the way to go. It is all about will power but you have to be quitting for yourself and not anyone else. If you really want to, you will make it. Good luck.Try this website for quit smoking help and information. Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCKBottom line: you have to really want to stop. Not even hypnotism can force you to do something you don-t really wish to do deep down inside. Smoking cessation aids, or removing yourself from your normal environment, can help you for a little while... but staying off the nicotine long term requires you to find a good source of inner motivation that you keep reminding yourself about. So don-t do it for that people who are pressuring you, that won-t work... what really matters to YOU?My father tried patches, gum, cold turkey, and everything in between. He went to a hypnotist in 1988. To this day, he swears that he remembers the entire session, that he was not hypnotised, and that the hypnosis had no effect and was a big waste of money. Of course, he never smoked a cigarette after that, either. Take what you will from that.Cold Turkey. I had to do it about a million times before it finally stuck... I guess practice makes perfect :-)
Keep trying you will quit.Just quit cold turkey. I promise it is the only way. For the first two weeks, you are going to be unbearable to be around. You will have to make a conscious desicion to not smoke every minute of the day for the first two weeks. But then it goes away. When I first quit, I would have my turn signal on in hte car getting ready to turn into the gas station to buy cigarettes. Then I would tell myself, i will die from this and I have a son who needs me to live. Find something that makes you love life, and makes you happy and use that as motivation. The people who love you want ou to be around. I am watching my mom suffer from COPD, caused from smoking. It will kill her, just like cancer would. She quit smoking, but it was too late. She knows that she maybe has a good five years left and she is only 49. All the things out there do not work. You have to have willpower. It IS possible to quit, you just have to have your mind right. You have to want to quit so bad that you will go through the times when it is going to suck really bad. It is probably one of the hardest things I have ever done, besides childbirth. But I smell good now, and I can taste food again. I can go to the gym and run and not feel like I am going to die. Please try it. It is the only way and you will start to feel so much better after you get past the two weeks. Good luck!!Pray about it.Willpower that-s the only thing u need to quit smoking. Everything else is just bull ****.
The more badly u want to quit smoking the easier it should be.
You have already taken the first step by deciding that u need to quit.

If u think u cant do it on yr own get professional helpThe best way is to end up in the hospital and have the doctors tell you that if you dont quit you will die. I ended up in the hospital with a major heart problem, the doctors told me quit or die. I was forced to quit cold turkey!!! Its the only way to go, then you need to stay away from anyone who smokes for quite a while. I have been quit for over two years and still when i smell it, I want a drag. Quit before its too late, Now I have kidney cancer, and they say that you are three times more likely to end up with it if you smoke. You just dont realize how bad this stuff really is for you until it is possibly too late. Go buy some of the nicorette gum, dont buy much, quit right now, and only chew it when you get to the point that the cravings are so bad you just cant stand it anymore. Dont chew it on a regular basis or you will become addicted to it as well. GO COLD TURKEY!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!Try weening yourself off of it. I was up to almost a pack a day when I decided to quit 5 years ago. I started out with little, realistic goals: not first thing in the morning, then not before noon, then not in my car, etc... after about 6 months, I wasn-t smoking daily anymore. It took a while to kick the habit while drinking, but eventually that became the only time I ever wanted one, and it would taste to nasty and make me so light-headed I didn-t even enjoy it. Nowadays, I get very random cravings every once in a while, but they pass very quickly. Good Luck!

How can I get someone to stop smoking? -

I hate that my bf smokes. I-ve taken it up a bit, but find that I-m disgusted with it, and when he does it. I can-t help but think about all of the health risks...my grandfather is dying from cancer and heart disease because of smoking. My bf stopped for a whole year, now he-s going crazy with it! How can i get him to stop without being too pushy, but at the same time, i want to be firm. I don-t want to be with a smoker. I saw someone-s suggestion to do the math to see how much money is wasted on smokes, and plan do use it for something else (ie trip). Any other suggestions??I gave up sucessfully using this method : http://www.zero-smoking.com , It took me about a month all in all and I have been given up for 4 months now and counting!

I wish you all the luck, its one of the hardest things I-ve ever done.I hate to say this believe me I do, but unless he wants to quit himself he won-t. I tried for years with my mother. My mom smoked before I was born. I was exposed to it growing up until I moved away. Needless to say now that I have a choice I don-t and never have smoked. I tried so many times and even had a shouting match with her about this. My mom and I never argued so you can imagine how important this was to me and how upset she was that I wouldn-t let it drop. It came to a head again when my son was born. I told her if he stayed at her house she couldn-t smoke. She promised me she wouldn-t. He came home with clothes smelling like smoke. I threatened to never let him stay with her again after that. It wasn-t long after that, that my mother got sick. She found out she had lung cancer (from smoking). She quit that day praying she got another chance. She died nine months later. I blamed myself for a long time thinking if I would have pushed a little harder it would have made a difference. In the end, I know it was always up to her and only her and that up until her diagnosis she simply didn-t want to stop. She had 2 heart attacks and was advised by doctors before she was diagnosed with lung cancer to stop smoking for her heart. For some people that would have been enough but she still continued to smoke.

Good luck to you. I wish there was a sure fire way to get someone to stop smoking, I definitely would have tried it with my mom. I hope you find some way to get through to him, but if you don-t... don-t beat yourself up over it.. you tried.. it is his decision to stop.Hm, well.. they are expensive. get a jar and say everytime he buys a pack he has to put the amount of money he spent of it in the jar, and let it fill up. eventually hell see how much he spends...and vacation i dont think is a good idea.. its almost as if your -rewarding yourselves for letting him smoke your way to earn vacation-...and if you callculate the money and have him cough up the money instead of the smokes... i doubt thats going to benefit much, since youll go on vacation and he might try to smoke behind your back. Your best best is to tell him your upset with him. You were proud of him when he quit, and with your family situations its hard to be around him when he smokes. if hes a good guy he-ll care and try to quit. I mean, i hope a lover is more important then some cig. or play some game, kind of like... limit one pack a week. once he gets used to it reward him somehow, nice dinner, buy him a gift, go somewhere. ((but you have to treat him. its only fair since you are trying to get HIM to quit))...then eventually take his box of cigs and take 1/4th of it out... then 1/3, 1/2...and then just like take 1 or 2 out each week after getting used to several weeks of 1/2... its a long process but if you keep treating him and encouraging him, it just might work. let him wear patches or something too (it helps fight the urge)Well fear usually works so you could try to scare him to stop smoking. Ever see that one commercial with that old woman who has a hole in her throat from smoking?

Or look up before and after pictures of people who have been smoking for say 10 years or more.Knowing people personally who get cancer from smoking can really get you to think about it. However, it is your boyfriends who has to quit. You can-t make him. If your relationship with him is important to him, if you said I won-t be with you if you smoke, then that may get him to quit.

I gave blood (I was told it was a perfect sample) when I was a non-smoker and I am planning on donating again in the future. However, I started smoking about 4 months ago and don-t want to give a tainted donation.

How long should I wait after I-ve stopped smoking to give blood. I want it to be a clean and healthy sample for those who may be receiving it.They ask that you don-t smoke the day before you give blood
